The Vice-Chancellor (VC) of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) Ing. Prof. Osei Wusu-Achaw led a delegation from the University on a working visit to the Office of the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by the Registrar, Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye, the Deputy Registrar in charge of Human Resource, Mrs. Mary Akom, the Director of Finance, Mr. James Osei Brobbey, the University Relations Officer, Dr. Charles Obeng-Sarpong and the Head of the Vice-Chancellor’s Secretariat, Mrs. Maura Boansi Amoakohene.
In the initial remarks of the VC, he revealed that the University was on course regarding increasing access to quality technical university education to the citizenry and other international students. He therefore, appealed to the Minister to join hands with the University as the Head of the Ashanti Regional Security Council to redouble the efforts of providing security for students and residents around the campuses of the University.
He also asked the Minister to help in the construction of the road connecting the main Kumasi-Accra road to the Adako Jachie campus and its inner roads. Ing. Prof. Osei Wusu-Achaw also informed the Hon. Minister of the University’s intention to adopt the Asem School and develop it into a model type under the Management of the University.
Hon. Simon Osei-Mensah on his part, pledged his unflinching support to the Management of KsTU. He added that the University has a pivotal role to play in the Ashanti region. He recounted the contributions of the University ranging from construction of a Police Station at Adako Jachie campus to the commissioning of the AVIC workshop at the Adako Jachie campus to help in training and acquisition of skills, which was under auspices of Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET).
Hon. Osei-Mensah further indicated that the University is a key partner in the development of the Region and also, disclosed that there were arrangements to bring the vice-chancellors from both public and private universities in the Region together to think about issues bothering the Region.
Touching on the issue of strengthening security on campus, the Regional Minister gave the assurance that he will liaise with the Regional Command of Ghana Police Service to beef up security on the campuses of the University. He gave the assurance that the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) and all the other relevant stakeholders will be brought into the picture. According to the Minister, the visit was timely because the support of KsTU was needed for the transformation of the Region and the Country as a whole.
Present at the meeting were Mad. Emelia Adjebeng Botway who is the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director and the Personal Assistant to the Minister, Mrs. Timah Gambrah.
