The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Advisory Committee or Unit within a university typically serves as a central hub to coordinate and promote the institution's efforts towards achieving the United Nations' 17 SDGs. The core functions of such a committee or unit may include:

1 - Policy Guidance and Strategy Development:

  • Advise the university administration on SDG-related policies and strategies.
  • Develop and implement a university-wide SDG strategy aligned with national and international agendas.

2 - Awareness and Education:

  • Organize workshops, seminars, and events to raise awareness about the SDGs among students, faculty, and staff.
  • Integrate SDGs into curricula, research, and teaching.

3 - Research and Innovation:

  • Facilitate interdisciplinary research collaborations to address SDG-related challenges.
  • Identify funding opportunities and support researchers in securing grants for SDG-focused projects.

4 - Community Engagement and Partnerships:

  • Foster partnerships with local communities, government agencies, NGOs, and private sector organizations to advance SDG goals.
  • Develop and implement community-based projects and initiatives.

5 - Monitoring and Reporting:

  • Track and report on the university's progress towards achieving the SDGs.
  • Develop and maintain a database of SDG-related activities, research, and outcomes.

6 - Resource Mobilization:

  • Identify and secure funding opportunities to support SDG-related initiatives.
  • Manage budgets and resources allocated for SDG activities.

7 - Capacity Building and Training:

  • Provide training and capacity-building programs for students, faculty, and staff on SDG-related topics.
  • Support staff and faculty professional development in SDG-related areas.

8 - Collaboration and Networking:

  • Facilitate collaboration between departments, faculties, and research centers to advance SDG goals.
  • Engage with national and international networks to share best practices and leverage expertise.

9 - Communication and Outreach:

  • Develop communication strategies to promote the university's SDG efforts.
  • Engage with media, stakeholders, and the broader community to raise awareness about the university's SDG commitments.

10 - Evaluation and Impact Assessment:

  • Conduct regular evaluations of SDG-related initiatives and programs.
  • Assess the impact of university efforts on achieving the SDGs.

     

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
