Profile of the Registrar

Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye was appointed in September 2019 as the Registrar of Kumasi Technical University. 

Prior to that, he was the Acting Planning Officer of the University. He held this position from 2010 (when the Institution was a Polytechnic) through 2016 (when it was converted to a university) to 2019. 

He first joined the University (then Kumasi Polytechnic) as a Senior Planning Assistant in 1998. 

Through self-sponsorship, he traveled to the United Kingdom in 2003 to pursue higher academic/professional qualifications. 

Mr. Boakye holds a Master of Science (MSc) Degree in Strategic Public Management from DeMontfort University Business School, Leicester, United Kingdom (2007); Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) Certificate (Now Operational Level) (2006); A Postgraduate Diploma in Economics from the prestigious Loughborough University in Leicestershire, United Kingdom (2005); Higher National Diploma in Statistics from Kumasi Polytechnic (Now Kumasi Technical University), Ghana (1998).  

Since Mr. Boakye became the Registrar, the University has seen very significant improvement and increase in Staff Promotions, Development, and Welfare. This is a result of a conscious strategy to provide top-notch administrative support at all levels. This has contributed to the University being adjudged the Best Technical University for three consecutive years (2020, 2021, 2022); thus, leading to the soaring of its image.  

As the Planning Officer, he was instrumental in the crafting and implementation of the University’s Strategic Plans. He was elected in 2017 as the Representative of Convocation (Non-Teaching) on the Governing Council. At the Council, he contributed significantly to the development of the University Statutes and several policies.  

His contribution to the University’s collaboration with institutions outside the Country is phenomenal. He has worked with international institutions such as Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (German Academic Exchange Services (DAAD)), Germany; Amatrol Engineering Incorporated of Indiana, USA among others, to a great benefit to the University. 

As the Senior Planning Assistant (Acting Planning Officer then), he did the spadework for the current model used for the preparation of Composite Time-tables for the University. 

Mr. Boakye worked as a Lecturer at Leicester Business Academy, United Kingdom from July 2007 to August 2009. He handled students pursuing ACCA, CIMA, ABE, and London University External Degrees in the following courses: Corporate Strategy, Strategic Human Resource Management, and Business Mathematics. He worked as a Part-time Lecturer in Statistics for Development & Economic Planning, and Research Methodology between October 2009 and August 2010 at Kumasi Polytechnic; and as a Part-time Instructor/Teaching Assistant in Economic & Social Statistics, National Accounts, Research Methodology between September 1998 and June 2003 in Kumasi Polytechnic. 

He has traveled extensively for the sake of the University to North America, Europe, and Africa.

Mr. Boakye is married to Mrs. Janet Pomaa Boakye, an Assistant Director of the Ghana Education Service.   

BRIEF INFORMATION ABOUT THE OFFICE OF THE REGISTRAR

The Office of the Registrar, headed by the Registrar, is responsible for all administrative activities in Kumasi Technical University. It offers secretarial services (or supervises such services) to the Governing Council, the Academic Board, and the Welfare Services Board. It also serves the Faculties, all Departments, and the General Public. It draws its existence and powers from the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922) and the University Statutes (Statute 19).

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
