Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ghana National Association of Garages (GNAG) to transfer knowledge in technology to help develop the automobile industry in the country.
As part of the collaboration, members of GNAG would be trained in the theoretical aspect of what they were already engaged in at their various workplaces. They will be certificated after going through the developed short courses.
At a short ceremony on 13th October 2022, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Prof. Robert Dery Nagre stated that KsTU with the aid of the AVIC workshop, members from GNAG will receive the requisite training. The University, he added is interested in making engineering very practical and relevant to the Ghanaian society and beyond hence the need for such collaborations.
The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Gabriel Dwomoh, after signing the MoU on behalf of the University, expressed delight over the two entities coming together to collaborate. He pointed out that the automobile industry is one of the biggest in Ghana and ranked fifth for the most attractive market in Sub-Saharan Africa.

He thus indicated that, Ghana imported 100,000 vehicles per year and that the market value for spare parts import had increased, more than, $500 million worth of spare parts. This is where the academia should come in to ensure that these spare parts are captured internally to salvage the cedi to save the economy.”
Mr. Solomon K. Andoh Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Watergates Ghana Limited, who led the GNAG delegation for the signing of the MoU, gave an assurance of his outfit’s readiness to collaborate with the KsTU to achieve results for the individual members of the Association.
He believed that in the next 10 years, Ghana would improve in the Technical Vocational Education Training to reduce the unemployment rate, as he also commended the movenment for providing an ultra-modern laboratory for the University to train students and others in the informal sector.
The signing of the said MoU took place at the Adako Jachie campus of the University.
