APPOINTMENT OF DIRECTOR OF WORKS AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) is a public tertiary institution established under the provisions of the Technical Universities Act, 2016 (Act 922), as amended. In accordance with the Act, KsTU is mandated to provide tertiary education in the areas of Engineering, Applied Sciences, Applied Arts, Technology-based disciplines, as well as Technical and Vocational Training. The University operates across three campuses located at Asem (Main Campus), Adako Jachie and Juansa.

 

The Governing Council of Kumasi Technical University hereby invites applications from suitably qualified and experienced persons for appointment to the position of DIRECTOR OF WORKS AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT.

 

 

The Position/Function

 

The Director of Works and Physical Development shall provide strategic leadership and oversight for the planning, development, and maintenance of the University’s physical infrastructure and related services. The role encompasses supervision of the following divisions:

  1. The Physical Development Works and Housing.

  2. Development Office.

  3. Grounds, Environmental Health and Services.

  4. Estate Organization.

Key Responsibilities

 

The Director shall be responsible for: 

 

  • The supervision of works and contracts to ensure that construction and renovations are in consonance with prevailing industry standards and specifications, taking due cognizance of the needs and requirements of the University. 

  • The management of construction contracts with a view to ensuring compliance and due delivery of projects. 

  • Collaborating with the Procurement Unit to procure consultancy services relating to the provision of technical advice on construction in compliance with national laws and the University Statutes.

  • The management and maintenance of all physical infrastructure including buildings, roads, drains, parks and gardens of the University and their designs and drawings.

  • The acquisition and allocation of housing for employees of the University upon the recommendation of the Housing and Estate Committee.

  • The construction and maintenance of residential facilities for students.

  • The management and control of land use and the maintenance of records on all land transactions entered into by and on behalf of the University.

  • The provision of valuation services.

  • The management, control and disposal of waste.

  • The provision of fumigation and other pest control services. 

 

The ideal candidate must:

  • Hold a minimum of a Master’s degree in Built Environment or a related field, PLUS a relevant professional qualification.

  • Have served as Deputy Director of Works and Physical Development in a university or in a comparable role within a similar institution for at least six (6) years.

  • Be proficient in the use of relevant computer applications.

 

Terms of Appointment

The Director of Works and Physical Development shall hold office for four (4) years on first appointment and may, on application, be re-appointed for a further term of up to four (4) years only, provided that no part of the second term enters the compulsory retirement age.

The terms and conditions of the appointment shall be determined by the Governing Council of the University in accordance with the Technical Universities Act 2016, Act 922 (as amended); and the Statutes of Kumasi Technical University.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
