Kumasi Technical University’s Alumnus Receives Eni Africa Prize

An alumnus of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) Master Emmanuel Kweinor Tetteh has received the ENI Africa prize. Emmanuel K. Tetteh was a student at the Chemical Engineering Department of KsTU between 2008 and 2011. He pursued Higher National Diploma in Chemical Engineering. Emmanuel was presented with the award by the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, at a ceremony in Rome, Italy. Tetteh was one of the eight recipients of the award this year. He was accompanied to the ceremony by Eudora Hilda Quartey Koranteng, the Ambassador of Ghana to Italy and Cardinal Ampiah Turkson.

The award scheme, since its inception in 2007, has rewarded hardworking researchers across the globe. The awards, which seek to promote the better use of energy resources and encourage new generation researchers, have received immense international recognition. Notable names on the selection committee make ENI a coveted award. List of ENI award winners include Nobel laureates like Harold W. Kroto and Alan Heeger.

Emmanuel is currently a PhD candidate within the Chemical Engineering Department of Durban University of Technology (DUT). He obtained his Bachelor of Technology degree at Durban University of Technology (DUT) where he graduated cum laude at the Masters level which he received the Dean Merit award for academic excellence as the best  cum laude student in the degree student of Master of Engineering for 2018 batch of graduate. Emmanuel Tetteh holds other accolades including Top Academic Achiever and Most Outstanding Performance in his department.

Emmanuel Tetteh’s second degree award-winning research focused on the recovery of oil from oily wastewater. The research optimized the operating conditions for acidification, coagulation and dissolved air flotation for a local oil refinery’s effluent treatment plant to enhance maximum residual oil recovery. Again, the research developed a predictive model that can be applied to different operating conditions for oil recovery in oily waste water treatment.
