On Tuesday, December 3 2024, a delegation from Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, visited the Adako Jachie Campus to conduct a final site inspection of the partially completed four-storey classroom and office block for the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology (FCAT).
The visit aimed to assess the progress of construction and address any outstanding issues before the formal handover of the project. This project which consists of lecture halls, a library, and offices, was initiated to house the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology and ease congestion at the University’s Asem campus.
The delegation which included members of the University Management, was welcomed by Architect Evans Osman Asigri, who chaired the inspection session. He acknowledged that while the project was initially scheduled for completion within 14 months, disbursement delays had caused setbacks. He encouraged stakeholders to identify and address any remaining challenge to ensure that the building was ready to be handed to the University.
During the inspection, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done so far. However, he highlighted a few issues that required immediate attention and urged the contractor to expedite action on the finishing. He emphasised the importance of diligence and timely delivery, so that the building will be fully ready for use by January 2025.
Senior Management members present also echoed the Vice-Chancellor’s sentiments, expressing their readiness for the faculty’s relocation into the new facility.
The contractor for the project, Mr. Charles Kwakye, site engineer for AEON Complex Limited, assured the delegation that the building was largely complete, with only minor site works remaining. He commended the University for its support throughout the construction process and pledged to hand over the facility shortly.
Funded through the University’s internally generated funds (IGF) with additional support from GETFund, the new FCAT block is a testament to KsTU’s commitment to infrastructural development. The building does not only enhance the aesthetics of the Adako Jachie campus but also, represents a strategic move to expand the campus, which will now house three faculties.
Already, tools and equipment for the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology are being moved into the new block in preparation for the next academic year.
The full completion of this project will mark a significant milestone in KsTU’s journey to providing state-of-the-art facilities for its students and staff. The University eagerly anticipates the full utilisation of the new FCAT block, which is set to transform learning and teaching experiences.
