Spotlight on Mr. Akwasi Sarfo Agyemang: The newly appointed National Council Chairman of TUSAAG

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) proudly announces the appointment of one of its distinguished staff member, Mr. Akwasi Sarfo Agyemang, as the National Council Chairman of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG). This prestigious appointment marks yet another milestone in Mr. Agyemang’s steady career in higher education administration.

Mr. Akwasi Sarfo Agyemang is a Senior Assistant Registrar at KsTU, where he currently heads the Admissions and Students Records Office. Prior to this role, he served as the Head of the Students’ Affairs Office and was the founding Head of the Alumni Relations Office. His extensive experience in university administration and strategic leadership has left a remarkable imprint on the institution, and his latest achievement as TUSAAG National Council Chairman further cements his legacy.

Mr. Agyemang’s academic journey is nothing short of impressive. He holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Strategic Management and Consulting, a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B), and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Publishing Studies from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Additionally, he earned a Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Cape Coast, showcasing his commitment to lifelong learning and professional development a member of both the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC-Ghana) and the International Association of Student Affairs and Services (IASAS). As the West African Regional Coordinator for IASAS, he continues to contribute to the broader higher education community on an international level.

Mr. Agyemang’s commitment to the welfare of senior administrators in technical universities has been a driving force throughout his career. As a long-standing member of TUSAAG, he has served in various capacities, including as Local Secretary of the KsTU Chapter, member of the Negotiations Committee, and member of the Constitutional Review Committee. His leadership as the President of the KsTU Chapter and now, his new role as the National Council Chairman of TUSAAG, is a testament to his dedication to advancing the interests of his colleagues across the country.

A Seasoned Administrator and Thought Leader

Beyond union leadership, Mr. Agyemang’s contributions to university governance have been profound. He has led and contributed to key policy directions through research, suggestive memoranda, and position papers on administrative issues. His involvement in statutory and ad hoc committees, such as the Academic Board, Central Admissions Board, Staff Development and Scholarship Committee and other numerous investigative and planning committees underscores his invaluable role in shaping the future of higher education.

His research interests span areas critical to the growth and development of higher education, including Educational Policy Formulation and Analysis, Administrative Law, and Industrial Relations. Mr. Agyemang’s participation in numerous workshops, conferences, and educational fairs, both locally and internationally, has further broadened his expertise and network.

The news of his appointment was so refreshing and heartwarming among the membership of the Association to an extent that the various platforms were inundated with words of felicitation.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
