Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has officially welcomed a record number of fresh students into its academic community at its 34th Matriculation ceremony for the 2025/2026 academic year, a ceremony that will go down in the University’s history as the first to be held virtually.

For the first time ever, the matriculation ceremony was streamed live across the University’s social media platforms, allowing students from the Amakom and Adako Jachie campuses, as well as their families and well-wishers to participate from wherever they were. Though conducted online, the significance of the moment was not lost. If anything, it rather underscored KsTU’s commitment to innovation, which define adaptability, and flexible learning  of modern institutions of higher learning.

Addressing the newly admitted students, the Vice-Chancellor described the occasion as both historic and deeply inspiring. He warmly welcomed the fresh students, congratulating them on earning admission into what he noted was a highly competitive process this year.

Out of 16,155 applications received, 9,620 students were admitted and enrolled, representing 59.5% of applicants. The newly matriculated class comprises 6,199 males (64%) and 3,421 females (36%). In total, 9,373 undergraduates and 247 postgraduates have joined the University this academic year, including a significant number of international students from various countries.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasised that this year’s intake is the largest in the history of the Institution, a milestone that reflects the growing reputation of KsTU and the confidence the public continues to place in the quality of education it offers.

He reminded students that matriculation is more than a ceremonial gathering. He emphasised that it is a formal induction into the academic community. “By taking the matriculation oath, students transition from applicants to Junior Members of the University, gaining academic and social privileges while also accepting important responsibilities,” the Vice-Chancellor emphasised.

He encouraged the students to familiarise themselves with the Students’ Handbook, available on the University’s official website, stressing that the oath taken represents a binding commitment to uphold the Institution’s rules, values, and traditions. Academic honesty, respect for authority, responsible digital engagement, and peaceful coexistence, he noted, are values that define the KsTU community.

Students were cautioned against negative behavioural patterns that could derail their academic progress, with a reminder that the University will not hesitate to enforce its regulations when necessary. The Vice-Chancellor further assured the students that they had made the right choice in selecting KsTU, noting that the University continues to receive recognition from reputable international ranking bodies for its impact and academic strength.

As the ceremony drew to a close, he encouraged the new entrants to approach this new chapter with focus, resilience, and determination. He also reaffirmed the commitment of Management and Staff to guide and support them throughout their academic journey.

With 9,620 students officially inducted and its first-ever virtual matriculation successfully held, Kumasi Technical University begins the 2025/2026 academic year on a strong and historic note.
