KsTU Receives Generous Book Donation from Distinguished Scholar Dr. Kwabena Addo Pambour

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) was honoured with the donation of 50 specialised engineering books by Dr. Kwabena Addo Pambour, a distinguished scholar from Germany, as part of his commitment to enriching academic resources in Ghana. The presentation which took place on  November 11, 2024,was held in the Council Chamber, marked a significant boost to the resources available for engineering at KsTU.

The donated books titled, "Modelling, Simulation, and Analysis of Security of Supply Scenarios in Integrated Gas and Electricity Transmission Networks" were authored by Dr. Pambour himself.  This publication delves into the complex interdependence between gas and electricity transmission networks, a field of increasing importance as renewable energy sources become more integrated with existing energy systems. The book addresses the challenges and potential of technologies like Power-to-Gas, which strengthen the link between gas and electricity networks through the use of gas-fired generators and electric-driven compressors.

The books were presented to Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU by the Chief of Ankaase, Nana Atakora Bonsra, who made the donation on behalf of Dr. Pambour. Accompanying him was the immediate past Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Ing. Prof. Osei-Wusu Achaw, who was instrumental in facilitating the donation. In his remarks, Nana Bonsra highlighted Dr. Pambour’s long-standing dedication to supporting Ghanaian universities, emphasising how this donation aims to enhance teaching and learning within the Faculty of Engineering.

Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Robert Nagre, along with faculty staff, was present to hand over the books to the Vice-Chancellor and Senior Management. Prof. Nagre expressed his excitement about the specialised nature of the donated books, which include insights into energy systems modeling, renewable integration, and supply chain security—that are critical to the training of future engineers.

In his remarks, Ing. Prof. Achaw provided further context on Dr. Pambour’s contributions to energy infrastructure security. “Dr. Addo has developed some security systems that aid in the reliable supply of electricity,” he noted, explaining that the donated books will be invaluable resources for faculty and the students, particularly, those studying the complexities of integrated energy systems. These books cover a range of advanced topics which will serve as a crucial academic foundation for students specialising in energy and systems engineering, allowing them to gain skills and knowledge that are relevant to modern engineering challenges.

Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, upon receiving the books, expressed deep appreciation for the gesture and particularly acknowledged the efforts of Nana Bonsra and Prof. Achaw in making it possible. “It is wonderful to witness a scholar from Germany contributing to our university,” he said. He also extended his gratitude to Dr. Pambour, underscoring the value of international partnerships in academia. “Such contributions foster academic growth and inspire our students to aim for global excellence,” Prof. Dwomoh added, urging Dr. Pambour to continue his support in the years to come.

This donation signifies a growing relationship between KsTU and international scholars who are committed to supporting technical education in Ghana.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
