KsTU Management Pays Courtesy Call on the Newly Appointed Ashanti Regional Minister

The Vice-Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, together with some senior officers of the University paid a courtesy call on the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene. The visit aimed to officially congratulate the Minister on his appointment role and strengthen the relationship between the University and the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (RCC).

During the meeting, Prof. Dwomoh congratulated Dr. Amoakohene on his appointment and assured him of the University's support. He emphasised KsTU’s readiness to collaborate with RCC in terms of in research and other technical expertise to support the Council. He also took the opportunity to formally invite the Minister to the University’s upcoming 22nd Congregation.

In his remarks, Dr. Frank Amoakohene expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor for the visit and commended KsTU for its contributions to technical education, skills development, and community security particularly, in the Asem area and other environs of KsTU. He noted that KsTU is not new to him, as he had previously engaged with the University during his tenure as the National President of National Union of Ghana Students (𝐍𝐔𝐆𝐒).

The Minister amplified the President’s commitment to supporting technical universities, stating that that the technical university transformation was a key initiative of the President John Dramani Mahama during his first term. He assured the University of his readiness to provide the necessary support to enhance its operations.

Dr. Amoakohene also encouraged KsTU to develop proposals that align with youth-related government programmes such as the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the National Youth Authority (NYA). He urged the University to prioritise short courses that would equip individuals, including degree holders with practical skills to enhance their employability and entrepreneurial acumen.

Both parties expressed optimism about fostering a closer partnership to enhance education, research, and socio-economic development in the Ashanti region.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
