KsTU Holds 23rd Congregation Ceremony for 2024/2025 Academic Year

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) held its 23rd Congregation Ceremony on Saturday, 29th November 2025 at the New Great Hall to celebrate students who successfully completed their Master of Technology (MTech), Bachelor of Technology (BTech) and Diploma (Non-CTVET) programmes during the 2024/2025 academic year.
The ceremony was organised in two sessions to accommodate the high number of graduands. The first session hosted graduands from Graduate School, Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, and Faculty of Health Sciences. The second session featured Business School, Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development, and Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology.
Both sessions included the academic procession, musical performances, the presentation of graduands by the Registrar, and the conferment of degrees and diplomas by the Council Chairman. Special awards were also presented to outstanding students.
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, welcomed guests on behalf of the Chancellor, Dr. Kwame Addo-Kufuor and emphasised that the congregation serves as a statutory platform to report on the state of the University while honouring students who have excelled academically.
Prof. Dwomoh announced that a total of 1,978 graduands successfully completed their programmes during the academic year, including: 358 Diploma graduands 1,575 Bachelor of Technology graduands and 45 Master of Technology graduates
He also highlighted the constitution of the new Governing Council, chaired by Prof. Edward Brenya, expressing optimism that the Council will strengthen institutional governance and accelerate the University’s growth and transformation.
Prof. Dwomoh announced that KsTU has now signed over 70 MoUs with institutions in the USA, Turkey, South Korea and Ghana. He highlighted the University’s partnership with Kantanka Automobile, which has resulted in the near completion (90%) of a regenerative electric vehicle to be unveiled before the end of the year.
The University secured major grants, including: $30,000 for retooling the Medical Laboratory (Sysmex Diagnostics), GH₵800,000 for campus lighting (Ministry of Energy & Green Transition), $15,000 for student training in paving technology (UNIDO),€80,845 for Erasmus mobility programmes,£25,000 for supporting girls in STEM (British Council)
He also announced several ongoing and completed infrastructure projects, including new classroom blocks, laboratories and a 250-bed student hostel facility. Prof. Dwomoh urged graduands to uphold integrity, value time, choose their associations wisely and become proactive, solution-oriented citizens.He encouraged them to be exemplary ambassadors of KsTU and to embrace lifelong learning.
Representing the Minister for Education Mr. Fred Asa Kisiedu described the congregation as more than a graduation ceremony, calling it a celebration of a remarkable journey of transformation and impact. He praised KsTU for its consistency in delivering industry-relevant programmes, promoting research and innovation, maintaining high academic standards, and producing graduates who are ready to meet the demands of the workplace. He emphasised that TVET has become a strategic pillar of Ghana’s economic transformation. He noted that countries such as South Korea, Germany, China, and Singapore have thrived by investing heavily in technical education, and Ghana must follow suit. KsTU, he said, plays a leading role in shaping the nation’s technical education landscape, supporting industry, driving innovation, and providing solutions to national challenges.
The highlight of the event was the inspiring valedictory address delivered by Mr. Japhet Baidoo, the Overall Best Graduating Student, who shared a remarkable journey of resilience, academic excellence, and global experience.
In his speech, Mr. Baidoo reflected on his early days at Ahinkofi Primary School, through Ketan M/A Junior High School and Sekondi College, before enrolling at Kumasi Technical University to pursue a Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering. He recounted the emotional and financial challenges he faced, particularly when securing his travel arrangements for an academic and cultural exchange programme in China through KsTU’s international partnerships.
He expressed deep gratitude to his parents, whose sacrifices ensured he never missed an opportunity. He also thanked the University for providing opportunities for global learning and cultural exchange.
The 23rd Congregation Ceremony concluded with the dissolution of the assembly, leaving behind scenes of joy, gratitude, and pride. Families, faculty, and friends celebrated the achievements of the graduating class, marking another milestone in the University’s pursuit of excellence in technical and professional education.
