Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) recently hosted a delegation from Eberswalde University of Sustainable Development, led by its President, Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth, to discuss ways of enhancing cooperation and building on the already existing partnership between the two institutions.

The team was received at the Council Chamber by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, together with members of the University’s Management and the Deans of Faculties. The presence of the Deans enriched the discussions, providing faculty-level insights into academic programmes, research priorities, and practical areas for further collaboration.

During the meeting, both institutions shared detailed presentations on their academic structures, research focus areas, and strategic priorities. Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth took the opportunity to highlight HNEE’s role as a research-focused university in Germany, emphasising ongoing projects, innovation strategies, and the European Union funding mechanisms that could support KsTU researchers in joint initiatives.

Key areas of discussion included Material Science, Engineering, and Sustainable Management, where both universities saw potential for collaboration. In addition, student exchange programmes were explored, with an emphasis on developing matching programmes and scholarship opportunities to promote mobility and international exposure for students.

Capacity building was another important topic, particularly in strengthening KsTU’s International Affairs Office to facilitate effective partnerships and ensure that academic programmes are well matched for collaboration.

The visit concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) by Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, and the President of Eberswalde University, Prof. Dr. Matthias Barth. The MoU formalises the commitment of both universities to collaborate in research, academic exchange, capacity development, and sustainable innovation.

This strengthened partnership is expected to open new opportunities for both staff and students of KsTU, advance the University’s internationalisation agenda, and foster collaborative research initiatives that will benefit both institutions.
