U.S. Embassy Deepens Ties with KsTU: New Educational Opportunities for Students and Staff

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) welcomed a delegation from the United States Embassy led by Mr. Matthew Asada, the Press Attaché, as part of their tour of the Ashanti region. The visit was an opportunity for both institutions to explore and strengthen their existing collaborations, with a focus on enhancing educational opportunities.

Mr. Asada was accompanied by key members of the U.S. Embassy team, including Ms. Liza M. Steger, Regional Engagement Specialist, Madam Joyce Asiedu, Press and Media Specialist and Ms. Rita Awuku, Director of the American Center. The meeting with the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh and his management team marked a significant moment in fostering partnerships that could benefit the University community.

During the visit, Mr. Asada emphasised the U.S. Embassy's commitment to promoting educational exchanges between Ghana and the United States. He highlighted the upcoming EducationUSA fair, where over 56 universities would participate, encouraging KsTU to explore the possibility of partnerships. "We want to prioritise educational opportunities through our EducationUSA fair. There are various exchange programmes available for both students and staff, and we hope KsTU can take full advantage of them," said Mr. Asada.

The delegation also outlined numerous scholarship opportunities, funding for educational projects, and other exchange programmes, urging KsTU to actively engage in these initiatives. They encouraged the University to apply when calls for proposals are made, emphasising that these programmes are designed to enhance teaching, learning and research.

In response, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh expressed gratitude for the visit and reaffirmed KsTU’s dedication to working closely with the U.S. Embassy. He noted that such collaborations should extend beyond student recruitment, emphasising the importance of institutional partnerships. “We believe the U.S. Embassy should not only focus on recruiting students but also explore collaborations that will benefit both institutions on a larger scale, including faculty exchanges and joint research,” he remarked.

The discussions also covered a wide range of topics, including scholarships, digital skills and online learning platforms. The meeting underscored the mutual interest in creating a sustainable partnership aimed at improving the quality of education at KsTU.

As part of their broader vision, the U.S. Embassy team reaffirmed their willingness to partner with KsTU in future endeavours to promote quality education delivery. They also mentioned that the Embassy provides funding for educational projects, encouraging the University to apply for support when the opportunity arises.

The visit concluded with a positive outlook for further engagement between KsTU and the U.S. Embassy, aiming at unlocking more opportunities for the University’s students, staff and the wider academic community.
