KsTU Partners with Chafas Training Centre to Boost Technical Skills Development

In line with the quest to promote technical education in the country, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has joined forces with Chafas Training Centre (CTC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which took place on Tuesday, 15th October, 2024 at the office of the Vice-Chancellor. This is specifically targeted at those students and the master craftsmen who have not been certified but have knowledge often acquired through continuous practice.
The MoU outlines a comprehensive plan to provide hands-on training in long-vehicle truck driving, forklift operation, Close Circuit Television (CCTV) installation and other hands-on skills that are in high demand on the job market today. This initiative is expected to transform the way technical education is delivered, combining the ethical and professional aspects of the industry to equip participants with practical expertise.
At the signing ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh emphasised the importance of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Ghana. He stated, “This partnership is a major leap forward in ensuring that our students are not just academically sound but also, practically equipped with the right skills to meet industry demands.” He added that KsTU is committed to helping students to have mastery over their skills that can directly lead to employment, particularly in specialised fields like forklift operation and truck driving.
The Chief Executive Officer of Chafas, Mr. Christopher Adu Gyamfi, expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, "This MoU is going to transform our approach to training. By combining ethical standards with top-tier technical education, we can offer enhanced, industry-relevant training that will benefit students tremendously." Mr. Adu Gyamfi is confident that this partnership will have a lasting impact on students' career prospects.
The Institute of Distance Learning and Continuing Education (IDCE) at KsTU, headed by Prof. Kofi Agyarko Ababio, will facilitate the programme. Prof. Ababio reaffirmed the university's commitment to providing accessible and high-quality education through this new initiative. Also present at the signing was Dr. Benjamin Adjei Danquah, Deputy Director of IDCE and Mr Wilson Kwaku Nimsaah , Senior lecturer expressed optimism about the future of the training and technical education in general.
This MoU is a major step forward in KsTU’s mission to strengthen its ties with industry and ensure that its graduates are equipped with the skills needed for employment.
