The Human Resource Directorate of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), in collaboration with the Office of the Dean of Students, has successfully organised a one-day training workshop for Porters, Hall Masters/Mistresses, and Vice Hall Masters/Mistresses. The workshop, held at the Council Chamber, aimed to enhance participants' skills and competencies, ensuring they are well-equipped to execute their duties effectively and conscientiously.

In his address, Prof. Adoma Worae, the Dean of Students, commended the participants for their commitment to improving their competencies and reiterated the importance of their roles in ensuring the comfort and safety of students. He noted that hall management staff are not only caretakers but also key contributors to the overall student experience at KsTU. "Working in the halls of residence requires the right skills and a conscientious approach to meeting the needs of our students, who are our clients. This training session is designed to equip you with the tools necessary to excel in your roles," he said.

Prof. Worae also expressed his gratitude to the Human Resource Directorate for their support in organizing the training and praised the resource persons for their valuable contributions.

The training, which focused on key aspects of hall management, featured presentations by experienced resource persons. Prof. Cynthia Elizabeth Osei led the discussion on "Hall Management," where she highlighted the importance of structured and efficient management of University halls to ensure an orderly and conducive environment for students. Ms. Felicia Ofosuaa Tettey, the University’s Counsellor, followed with an engaging session on "The Hall Masters/Mistresses/Porters: Relationship with Students," emphasising the need for fostering a positive and respectful relationship between hall staff and students. Mrs. Mary Safowah Akom, the Head of HR also shared vital insights on "Administrative Titbits for Hall Management and Applying University Rules," outlining the procedures for managing halls in compliance with the university’s policies.

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Abena Agyeiwaa Obiri-Yeboah, who also graced the event, highlighted the critical role hall staff play in ensuring the well-being and safety of students. She commended the university’s commitment to continuous staff development and underscored the importance of providing staff with the necessary training to meet the needs of students.

Prof. Obiri-Yeboah also encouraged participants to actively engage in the training by asking questions and sharing their experiences. "This training is not just about listening to lectures; it’s designed to be interactive. Your input will help us make better decisions for the future," she added.

The workshop concluded with a renewed sense of commitment from participants to uphold the high standards of hall management at KsTU. Attendees expressed their appreciation for the opportunity to enhance their skills and committed to applying the knowledge gained in their daily duties.

The University remains committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and thriving environment for all students, and this workshop marks a significant step toward achieving that goal.
