KsTU Graduate School Holds Theses Defence for Postgraduate Students

In line with the requirements for the award of Master’s degrees at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), the Graduate School has successfully organised a Thesis Defence (viva voce) for final-year postgraduate students.

The exercise was held on Friday, 23rd January 2026, at the EEE Hall/JICA Center and the Postgraduate Lecture Hall 2, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The programme brought together students, faculty members, examiners, supervisors, and staff of the University.

A total of nineteen (19) final-year students pursuing Master of Technology (MTech) and Master of Science (MSc.) programmes participated in the defence. Each candidate presented their thesis and was examined by a panel made up of supervisors and external examiners.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Graduate School Programmes Coordinator, Dr. Kwame Owusu Sarpong, who encouraged the candidates to approach the exercise with confidence and professionalism. He emphasized the importance of research to the University’s mission and urged students to see the defence as a platform to showcase their academic growth.

Also present was the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Sciences and Technology, Prof. Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Rahaman, who underscored the role of postgraduate research in national development and applauded the Graduate School for maintaining high academic standards.

Each candidate was allotted ten (10) minutes to make a PowerPoint presentation, after which they were examined by internal and external examiners. The panels assessed the relevance, originality, methodology, and practical contribution of each research work.

The defence sessions were conducted in an atmosphere of academic rigor and professionalism, with candidates confidently responding to questions and engaging in scholarly discussions.

The Theses Defence forms a critical requirement for the award of postgraduate degrees at Kumasi Technical University and reflects the institution’s continued commitment to quality research and academic excellence.
