Kumasi Technical University Signs Historic MoU with 35 TVET Institutions in the Ashanti Region

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has taken a significant step in advancing technical education in Ghana by hosting a Breakfast Meeting, culminating in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with 35 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions across the Ashanti Region. This event marks a milestone in KsTU's ongoing efforts to bridge the gap between academia and industry.

Under the theme "Bridging the Gap Between KsTU and TVET Institutions," the event brought together key stakeholders, including the Management of KsTU, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Abena A. Obiri-Yeboah, the Regional Director of the Ghana TVET Service (GTVETS), Mr. Richard Addo-Gyamfi, the Deputy Regional Director, Mr. Daniel Amoh, as well as staff and principals from various TVET second-cycle institutions in the Ashanti region.

In his opening remarks, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, "This is a very significant milestone in the history of our University. It is part of our vision to liaise and sign MoUs with TVET institutions as a strategic approach to strengthening our mutual relationship. This partnership will ensure that we all benefit from each other’s strengths and resources."

The Pro Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Abena A. Obiri-Yeboah, highlighted the numerous benefits of this partnership, including improved student enrollment in TVET academic programs, skill training for both staff and students, joint exhibitions and fairs, mentorship opportunities, and collaborative research in STEM fields. She remarked, "The gains from this collaboration are numerous, and we are committed to working together to ensure its success."

The MoU aims to foster closer collaboration between KsTU and the TVET institutions, focusing on areas such as workforce development, employability enhancement, and industry competitiveness. By strengthening industry-academia relationships, the partnership is expected to drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and increase global competitiveness.

The Breakfast Meeting provided a relaxed atmosphere for networking, strategic planning, and fostering camaraderie among the participants. The discussions culminated in the formal signing of the MoU, signaling a strong commitment from all parties involved to fully implement and ensure the success of this historic agreement.
