Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has once again solidified its reputation as one of Ghana’s leading institutions of higher learning, emerging as a top-tier university in Ghana in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025. KsTU ranked 7th nationally, reaffirming its position as the foremost technical university in Ghana and a key player in the sub-region’s academic landscape.

KsTU received a high ranking in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, which evaluate the universities' contributions to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Out of 2,318 institutions worldwide, only 11 institutions in Ghana reached the list, with KsTU proudly ranking among the country's top performers.

This recognition comes at a time when the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025 expanded its evaluation to 2,526 universities across 130 countries and territories, focusing on progress towards the SDGs, particularly in areas such as quality education, sustainability, research impact, and community development.

According to Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2025, this year’s data collection was the most comprehensive yet, involving 472,694 data points from 2,860 institutions, including 157 million citations and 18 million research publications, supported by insights from over 93,000 scholars globally. This rigorous methodology ensures that rankings reflect institutions that are not only academically sound but are also making a measurable impact on society.

The 2025 edition saw 185 new institutions joining the rankings, making the competition even stiffer. Despite this, KsTU’s strong performance demonstrates its resilience, strategic focus, and unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
