History was made at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) on Friday, March 28, 2025, as the Institution hosted its maiden Chancellor’s Public Lecture and officially launched its History Book. This landmark event was held at the New Great Hall and brought together dignitaries, industry leaders, faculty, students, and the broader KsTU community as part of the ongoing 70th Anniversary celebrations.

The Chancellor of KsTU, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor, presided over the event, delivering a powerful address before unveiling the University’s much-anticipated History Book. In his remarks, Dr. Kufuor highlighted the significance of this publication, which meticulously documents KsTU’s journey over the past seven decades, from its humble beginnings to the current status as a leading technical University in Ghana and beyond.

According to Dr. Kufuor, the book serves as both a historical record and an inspiration for future generations, showcasing the perseverance, achievements, and contributions of individuals who have played pivotal roles in the University’s growth. “This is more than just a book; it is a testament to the resilience and dedication of our KsTU community. It honours the past while guiding the future,” he stated.

Reiterating the importance of practical industry experience, Dr. Kufuor emphasised that KsTU must forge closer partnerships with key local industries, particularly Suame Magazine and the Kantanka Industries, to align technical education with national development needs.

In a moment of gratitude, the Chancellor acknowledged the contributions of staff, students, alumni and partners whose unwavering commitment have propelled the University forward. He called on stakeholders to continue supporting KsTU’s mission of delivering industry-relevant education and technological innovation.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Daniel McKorley, Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies, emphasised the crucial role of technical and vocational education and training (TVET) in shaping Africa’s economic future. He noted that many young graduates from technical institutions lack the entrepreneurial skills necessary to create jobs and meet industry demands.

“Africa’s future will be shaped by its artisans, engineers, and problem-solvers. Kumasi Technical University has played a key role in this transformation, but there is still more to be done,” Dr. McKorley asserted.

He challenged KsTU to think boldly about its future, suggesting that the University explores expanding its campus by securing additional land to accommodate future growth. He also announced his company’s commitment to partnering KsTU to create job opportunities and strengthen industry-academia collaboration.

“I have seen firsthand how industries struggle to find skilled workers despite the increasing number of graduates. It is time for the private sector to step up and collaborate with technical universities to provide real-world exposure,” he added.

The Chancellor’s Public Lecture and the launch of the History Book marked a significant milestone in KsTU’s anniversary celebrations, reinforcing the University’s legacy of excellence while charting a bold course for the future.
