KsTU Commissions Medical Laboratory to Boost Healthcare Services on Its Campus
Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has achieved another milestone with the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Medical Laboratory at the University Clinic. The new facility which was commissioned by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gabriel Dwomoh on Friday, 17th November 2024, will enhance healthcare services for the University community and its environs.
The Medical Laboratory is equipped to conduct a variety of diagnostic tests, including HIV screening, Hepatitis B and C tests, typhoid antibody testing, pregnancy tests, malaria diagnosis, fasting and random blood sugar checks, sickling tests, blood grouping, urine routine examinations, and Full Blood Count (FBC). This initiative marks a significant step in promoting high quality and accessible healthcare on campus.

In a brief address to members who were present at the commissioning, Professor Dwomoh highlighted the importance of the laboratory in addressing the health needs of staff and students. He noted that for years, the University relied on external facilities for medical examinations, particularly for first-year students. With the establishment of this laboratory, he expressed optimism that the facility will be widely utilised by the University community.
Dr. Natasha Asamoah, Director of Health Services at KsTU, expressed her gratitude to the University Management for their support. She assured stakeholders that the laboratory will be used effectively to address the health challenges faced by staff and students. "This facility will provide critical support in promoting good health and well-being within our community," she noted.
The laboratory features advanced equipment, including a Full Blood Count (FBC) analyzer, semi-automated Chemistry analyzer, and high-resolution microscopes, among others. These tools will enable the laboratory to deliver accurate and reliable results for various medical tests.
The laboratory is now fully operational and ready to provide the healthcare needs of KsTU community.
