The Guidance And Counselling Unit Holds A Workshop For Departmental Counsellors

The Guidance and Counselling Unit of Kumasi Technical University has held a workshop for counselling representatives for the various departments. The one day workshop which was held at the Council Chamber had as its theme “Managing the present day students: the skills departmental counsellors need”. The workshop was facilitated by Mad. Felicia Ofosuaa Tettey and Mrs Agnes Anim from the Guidance and Counselling Unit of the University.

Mr James Owusu Agyei the former Counsellor of KsTU now a lecturer in KNUST was the resource person for this event and he took participants through practical sessions on how to be effective in departmental counselling. Emphasizing the importance of counselling, Mr Owusu Agyei urged participants to consciously identify students with problems and if possible, refer them to the professionals at the Counselling Unit.

The workshop also gave the opportunity for participants to be educated on the intentions of a counsellor; the personality of a departmental counsellor; basic tools for counselling and how to gather bio data from students to know their problems.

The aim of the workshop was to bring together the departmental counsellors and to train them to be very effective in managing the present day students. 

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
