Capacity Building Workshop on the Ghana Voucher Project
Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) in conjunction with Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (COTVET) has organised a three-day training workshop on Competency-Based Training (CBT) concept and its implementation processes. The workshop is related to the Ghana TVET Voucher Project which is under the auspices of COTVET.
At the launch of the programme, Mr. Ebenezer K. Boakye and Registrar of the University expressed his delight at the commencement of the programme because of his initial effort to make it a reality. He maintained that the Technical Universities are the apex of Technical Vocation Education Training (TVET) system hence, the need to be involved in such training. He expressed the willingness of KsTU to push the TVET Voucher Project.
Dr. John Agyei who is the Head of the Centre for Business Development and Consultancy Services and also doubles as the project coordinator for KsTU’s Ghana TVET Voucher Project stood in the stead of the Pro Vice-Chancellor to address the gathering on the purpose of the training. He explained that the Voucher Project was aimed at eradicating unemployment in the system by training master craftsmen and women as well as apprentices. He said the project would lead to the award of National Proficiency I & II for all who successfully go through it. The Ghana Voucher Project he explained, was also aimed at ensuring standardization of training by insisting on application of Competency-Based Teaching methodology.
On his part, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU Ing. Prof. Osei Wusu-Achaw opined that KsTU is ready to support the full implementation of the programme. He was of the strong belief that the capacity building workshop will reposition KsTU by way of continuously building the capacity of the University’s lecturers who are at the forefront of offering the training to the artisans.
Other dignitaries present at the launch included Management members of the University, Deans from the various faculties, lecturers as well as other supporting staff.
