PROMOTING HEALTH AWARENESS: KSTU'S GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING UNIT ORGANIZES ANNUAL HEALTH SEMINAR & SCREENING

Promoting Health Awareness: KsTU's Guidance and Counselling Unit Organizes Annual Health Seminar & Screening

The Guidance and Counselling Unit orchestrates its much-anticipated Counselling and Emotional Health Week. The event, held annually, commenced with an engaging Health Seminar on 18th July 2023, conducted via Zoom, focusing on essential health topics such as Hepatitis B, Personal Hygiene, Cervical and Breast Cancer, and Heart Conditions.

Distinguished speakers at the Health Seminar included Prof. Nana Osei-Djarbeng, Dean of the Health Science Department at KsTU, Dr. Natasha Asamoah, Acting Director of the University Clinic, and Dr. Sheila Bawa, a respected Family Health Physician at Suntreso Government Hospital. The seminar aimed to disseminate crucial health information to both staff and students, promoting a proactive approach to personal well-being.

The interactive nature of the online seminar allowed participants to engage in enlightening discussions and pose questions to the esteemed panel of health experts during a Q&A session. This lively interaction fostered an atmosphere of openness and encouraged attendees to seek out credible information about their health concerns.

Following the enlightening Health Seminar, the Health Screening event officially began on 18th July and will continue until 21st July on the main campus of the University. The screening provides an excellent opportunity for students and staff to proactively monitor their health status through various medical assessments, including blood pressure checks, HIV tests, BMI measurements, and more.

Mad. Felicia Ofosuaa Tettey the Head of the Counselling Unit of the University, expressed her satisfaction with the ongoing Health Week, saying, "We are delighted to witness the active participation of both students and staff in this event. It shows that the KsTU community is prioritizing their health and well-being."

The Counselling and Emotional Health Week has been met with enthusiasm and appreciation from the university community, with many individuals seeking assistance and support from health practitioners at the event. The Guidance and Counselling Unit remains committed to fostering a culture of emotional well-being and mental health awareness on campus.

Looking ahead, the Health Screening event is scheduled to extend its reach to the Adako Jachie campus on Monday, 24th July 2023, ensuring that all KsTU students have access to these vital health services and resources.

The Guidance and Counselling Unit continues to make strides in promoting mental health awareness, providing guidance, and fostering a supportive environment for the holistic development of the KsTU community.
