KsTU’s Sports Directorate Organises Games for Staff

Kumasi Technical University climaxed the celebration of the 65th Independence Celebration of Ghana with a titanic football encounter between the Teaching and Non-teaching staff of the University. The football match was one of the numerous games organised by the Sports Directorate of the University on 7th March 2022 which was a public holiday.

Various games such as Table Tennis, Draught, Ludu, Playing Cards and Oware were also keenly contested by both male and female staff of the University. Obviously, the most exciting contest of the entire games was the bone-cracking football encounter in which Teaching and Non-teaching groups locked horns to determine “who is who”.

To start the titanic football duel, the Vice-Chancellor Ing. Prof. Osei-Wusu Achaw kicked the ball to officially commence the game. He also had a word of advice to all the participants by reminding them that a sound mind rests in a sound body therefore, it was important for all staff to exercise their bodies regularly to ensure that they were always fit in order to get the needed physical strength and mental alertness to carry out their responsibilities.

A very interesting football match was witnessed immediately after the blast of the whistle. Both teams tried to make a very impressive showing with some dribbling skills that held most of the spectators spellbound. Various incursions were made into the vital areas of both teams which eventually resulted in an opening goal which was nicely scored by Mr. Enoch Yanney for the Non-teaching team.

The first goal urged the team for the Teaching group to redouble their effort and pressed further for the needed equalizer only to be shocked by the second goal from Collins Appau of the Non-teaching group. Interestingly, both teams made various substitutions because clearly, some of the players were gasping for breath.

The second half was equally interesting. The team of the Teaching group had a penalty immediately after the resumption of the game. This penalty was neatly converted by Dr. Misbaw Adams from the Electrical Engineering Department for the Teaching group. This further heightened the intensity of the game. As expected in football matches of this nature, some dazzling moves from some players of both teams were nice to behold. The most impressive touches and moves were displayed by Dr. Charles Obeng-Sarpong, the University Relations Officer (URO) who was finally adjudged the best player of the football encounter.

At the end of it all, the scoreline remained 2-1 in favour of the Non-teaching group. Even though the Teaching group has vowed to retaliate on 1st May 2022, during the Workers’ Day, time will certainly tell.
