KsTU Students Grabs Gold at World Skills Competition
Two students from the Electrical Engineering Department of Kumasi Technical University have emerged victorious in the recently organized National Skills Competition which took place from 26th to 29th October 2021 at the Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC).
The two, Mantey Kwarteng Amos, a BTech student and Owusu Samuel who recently completed his HnD programme participated in the skills competition and won the gold prize. They are set to represent Ghana at the World Skills Africa Competition in Namibia. Amos together with Samuel represented the school and won the 1st position in Mechatronics with the help of their coach Mr. Stephen Theophilus Aidoo.
Having competed in the zonals, it propelled them to compete in the nationals. They faced stiff competition from their compatriots from other Technical Universities and Institutes across Ghana and with the help of their coach, they emerged victorious and excelled with distinction. 73 competitors participated nationwide in 14 skill areas in the 4-day National Skills contest out of which Kumasi Technical University took the ultimate award in the category of Mechatronics.
Mr. Mantey Kwarteng one of the winners expressed his optimism that the knowledge acquired throughout the competition has equipped him to participate at the African level. Notwithstanding their challenges in mobilizing the necessary resources, KsTU was very involved in the planning and organization of the competition, Rev. Dr. Timothy Crenstil a member of the steering committee, Head of the Publicity Committee for World Skills and Head of Centre for Technology Transfer and Skills Development (CTSD), is passionately involved in world skills Ghana project.
This award is a reflection of KsTU’s quest to become a world-class Technical University and that there is more to be done to inspire the youth to think skills and learn skills for employability, industrial transformation and national development.
