KsTU Holds Seminar For Postgraduate Students On Quality Scientific Research

As part of their activities for the 2021/ 2022 academic year, the Graduate School of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), has organized a research seminar under the theme: “Equipping the Postgraduate Student for Quality Scientific Research” for its postgraduate students. The seminar was attended by all postgraduate students who discussed in detail, topics such as: “LaTeX for Thesis Writing and Presentation; Effective Presentation of Study Results, Writing Research Articles from your thesis among others. 

The Dean of the Graduate School, Prof. Roland Kabange in his welcome address said the programme was aimed at addressing the challenges facing postgraduate students in their research work. He noted that the programme was also intended to empower postgraduate students to properly present and publish their thesis. Dr. Francis Ohene Boateng, Ag Head of Department of Mathematics Education AAMUSTED, introduced LaTeX, a system for document preparation widely used in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, and Linguistics to the participants. On effective presentation of study results, interpretation and discussion, Dr. Bismark Quarku Parker, the Programmes Coordinator of Graduate School told the participants to always make reference to their topics and ensure that information gathered is relevant to their topics. 

He implored them to consider the genuineness of the information they want to present in their work. Ing. Dr. Julius C. Ahiekpor, a Senior Lecturer of KsTU presented on “Writing research articles from your thesis” and urged participants to be curious and always turn their thesis into publications. In their assessment of the workshop, the students were grateful for the initiative and were optimistic that the workshop would help them in uplifting their knowledge and skills in research.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
