KsTU Holds Its 19th Congregation
The 19th congregation of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) was held on March 11th, 2023 at the New Great Hall of the University with 2,014 people graduating. This comprised students who completed their Diploma and Higher National Diploma programmes of study in the 2021/2022 academic year. Out of the 2,014 graduands, 1,614 Higher National Diploma (HND), and 400 CTVET Diploma honours were awarded.
The Vice-Chancellor of the university Ing. Prof Osei-Wusu Achaw, congratulated the graduands for their dedication, courage and commitment in completing the academic year. According to the Vice Chancellor, Ing. Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has recorded its highest enrollment this academic year since its establishment. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw, announced that the university has enrolled 5,401 freshmen, with 64.5% males and 35.5% females.
"This year's enrollment is the highest we have ever recorded in any academic year since the establishment of this university," the VC proudly noted. The university now has a total student population of 12,704, with 68.7% males and 31.3% females.
During the Ceremony, The VC noted that the percentage of the total student population in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) was 51%, and the university was inching closer to the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) norm of 60%. He said the total student population of the University now stood at 12,704 comprising 68.7% males and 31.3% females.
The valedictorian, Mr. Abdul Latif Ali, who graduated with an HND in Dispensing Technology, and came out as the overall best graduating student recollected the long and often arduous journey which had them to their graduation day. On behalf of his colleagues, he thanked the lecturers, administrators, and staff of the Faculty of Health Sciences for their support throughout their journey at KsTU.
Advising his colleagues he said that "Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has not just been a place where we have built knowledge and skills but created wonderful networks that we will carry into the future.”
He also reminded his colleague graduates to not wait for opportunities to be created but rather challenge themselves with the knowledge and skills acquired from the institution to create such opportunities. He commended the management of the University for introducing the scholarship for the needy student of which he is a beneficiary.
Present at the ceremony included the Bantamahene, Baffour Owusu Amankwatia VI, who represented the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and Prof Dr. Ben Baffoe Bonnie, the Chairman of the KsTU Council.
Some guests also present include, Professor Mohammed Salifu, the Director General of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), Dr Asamoah Kyei, the Director General of the Commission of Tertiary and Vocational Education Training (CTVET), Representatives from sister Technical Universities, as well as, some family members and friends of the graduating class.
