KsTU CONFERS DEGREES ON 1,620 GRADUANDS AT 24TH CONGREGATION
Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) on Friday, 27th February,2026 held its 24th Congregation ceremony at the Great Hall, awarding degrees and diplomas to 1,620 graduands in a colourful and memorable event that was marked by applause and pride.
Students who emerged as the best in their respective faculties were called forward to receive special awards for academic excellence, adding a special highlight to the well-attended ceremony that brought together dignitaries, parents, staff and international partners.
In his address, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the graduands and gave a comprehensive report on the university’s steady progress, describing the occasion as a time to honour students who had shown absolute dedication and committed themselves to hard work.
The 1,620 graduands comprised 30 students who received Masters degrees in MTech, MSc and MEng programmes, 280 who graduated with Bachelor of Technology (BTech) degrees, 800 who completed the Higher National Diploma (HND), and 510 who were awarded Diplomas.
Prof. Dwomoh also announced strong growth in student intake for the 2025/2026 academic year, revealing that out of 16,155 applications received, the university admitted and enrolled 9,620 students.
Turning to developments since the 23rd Congregation in November 2024, the Vice-Chancellor reported several significant milestones. The university has now admitted its first batch of doctoral students in Civil, Automotive and Chemical Engineering after securing accreditation from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), bringing the total number of PhD and DTech programmes at KsTU to four, the highest among all technical universities in Ghana.
He also announced that scholarships had been awarded to female engineering students who won the Women in Engineering (WiNE) Competition for the third consecutive year, and that the number of Associate Professors had increased from 47 to 48 while Professors rose from two to three.
In a major innovation highlight, Prof. Dwomoh stated that the regenerative electric vehicle developed in partnership with Katanka Automobile Company, which was 90 per cent complete at the last congregation, is now fully finished and will be unveiled during the climax of the university’s 70th Anniversary celebrations later in March. The project is described as the first of its kind, requiring no external charging stations.
On global recognition, Prof. Dwomoh proudly announced that in the latest QS World University Rankings released this month, KsTU was adjudged the best technical university in Ghana, the 4th best university overall in the country. The ranking was based on academic reputation, citations per paper, faculty-student ratio, international research network, papers per faculty and sustainability.
Addressing the graduands, Prof. Dwomoh urged them to be bold and innovative in a rapidly evolving global economy. “Do not be afraid of change; be the architect of it,” he charged. He encouraged them to view national challenges in energy, infrastructure and the digital economy not as obstacles but as opportunities to apply their technical knowledge to develop sustainable, home-grown solutions.
He reminded them that their graduation marked a new beginning. “Your graduation is not an end, but a commencement the beginning of your contribution to the story of our dear nation,” he said, adding that they are now ambassadors of Kumasi Technical University and must uphold the values of integrity, excellence and service.
The ceremony ended with the formal conferment of degrees and diplomas, marking another significant milestone in the University’s seven-decade legacy of advancing technical and vocational education in Ghana and beyond.
