BACKGROUND:

Within the framework of the ICETEX Scholarship, the Fundación Universitaria Tecnológico Comfenalco of Colombia in collaboration with Kumasi Technical University invites applications from Females in Engineering in KsTU to participate in the project dubbed “Assessment of Women's Participation in STEM and Strategies to Reduce the Access Gap to Higher Education in Engineering Schools: A Comparative Approach between Institutions in Ghana, Colombia, and Spain”. 

PROJECT OBJECTIVE:

To evaluate the current status of women's participation in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields in order to propose strategies to reduce the access gap to higher education in Engineering Schools of Ghana, Colombia, and Spain.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Female gender

  • Outstanding academic average (include endorsed statement of results, CGPA not less than 3.50/5.00

  • Dynamic 

  • From a low social stratum

  • From a vulnerable population, who is the first generation to study engineering careers, 

  • Has or can obtain a passport at the time of submitting application.

  • Copy of Student ID

  • Motivation Letter

  • Application Letter and Curriculum Vitae

 

The selected student will be involved in: (1) Characterisation of variables that influence women’s choice of STEM careers (2) Analysing the context of secondary education to determine the factors that influence representation of females in STEM fields of study (3) Proposing strategies to increase the number of women choosing STEM careers (4) A trip to Spain in March 2025.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
