KsTU Organises Capacity-Building Training for Senior Members (Non-Teaching)

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has organised a capacity-building training programme for Senior Members (Non-Teaching) at the New Great Hall as part of efforts to strengthen administrative efficiency, professional development, and institutional governance within the University.

The training which was organised by the Human Resource Directorate of the University under the auspices of the Vice-Chancellors of Technical Universities – Ghana (VCTU-G), brought together senior administrative and professional staff of KsTU to enhance their knowledge and competencies in university administration and governance.

The resource persons for the training included Dr. Christopher Amehoe, former Registrar of Ho Technical University and Immediate Past Chairman of the Committee of Registrars and Directors of Finance; Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory, the current Chairman of the Committee and Registrar of Takoradi Technical University; Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi, Executive Secretary of VCTU-G and Mr. Frank Owusu Boateng.

In his presentation, Dr. Christopher Amehoe underscored the critical role Senior Administrative and Professional Staff (SAPS) play in university governance, stressing that experience, mentorship, exposure, and relevant qualifications are essential in strengthening administrative capacity.

According to him, SAPS serve as the driving force behind technical universities and continue to make significant contributions towards institutional growth and development.

Dr. Moses Maclean Abnory also highlighted the importance of senior administrators in shaping and sustaining higher education institutions, describing them as the bridge between governance structures and the real operations through the translation of policy decisions into practical outcomes that support institutional effectiveness.

Speaking on administrative communication, Mr. Joseph Mensah Oti-Asirifi emphasised the importance of effective administrative writing in ensuring coordination, accountability, transparency, and proper record-keeping within academic institutions.

He identified memos, official letters, circulars, notices, minutes, handover notes, emails, and WhatsApp communication as some of the common tools used in university correspondence. He further stressed that administrative writing must reflect professionalism, clarity, accuracy, conciseness, and proper structure consistent with the standards of academic institutions.

The training session was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh. In attendance were the Registrar, Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye; and the Director of Finance, Mr. Isaac Owusu Ansah.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
