The China-Africa Education International Exchange Programme has partnered with Kumasi Technical University to train some staff in specific engineering areas.
In connection with the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) project, approximately twenty-one (21) staff members from the Faculty of Engineering and Technology participated in a two-day intensive capacity building training for effective teaching and learning.
The lecturers who were selected from the Mechanical, Automotive and Civil departments of the Main and Adako Jachie campuses of KsTU were trained on how to operate or use the latest equipment installed by the Chinese government under the “Future of Africa – China-Africa TVET Cooperation Programme”.
It was organised by AVIC International Holding Corporation (AVIC INTL) of China for the Ghana-China Project on the rehabilitation and upgrading of equipment in technical universities as well as technical institutes in the country.
Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, the Director of International Affairs and Institutional Linkages of KsTU, was hopeful that the training would enable the lecturers, who have had hands-on practical training on the equipment, to teach effectively to make TVET the backbone of Ghana’s industrialisation agenda.
Speaking to Mr. Joseph Kwame Lewballah, a lecturer at the Mechanical Engineering Department, KsTU, he stated that the in-depth training received would sharpen members’ practical skills, to be able to take students through hands-on teaching in the field. Some of the lecturers were full of excitement at the installation of the new equipment, saying that after going through training, the lecturers would ensure that students are well-equipped to be fit for the job market.
The workshop is equipped with modern equipment for mechanical, civil and automotive systems among others, for students to have hands-on practical knowledge.
The two days of training focused on the Mechanical and Civil departments with participants taken through topics such as Consolidation test training, General Car maintenance, and Steel Reinforcement Tensile test, among others.
Among the team from China were Prof. Zhao Kunmin and Shi Hailong (for Mechanical Engineering), Ma Fangxing and Li Maoyi (for Civil Engineering).
