Planning, consistency, commitment and hardwork are the guiding principles of Professor Gabriel Dwomoh, the first and youngest Professor (full) of the Business School and the newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of Kumasi Technical University.
Born in Abesim- Sunyani, the young and energetic Professor recounts the journey of becoming a lecturer and subsequently rising to the climax of his academic pursuit. According to the Professor of Management, the thought of working in the academic environment was conceived when he saw a neighbour wearing an attire of one Ghanaian university. He then said to himself that he must wear an attire of that institution as either a student or a lecturer in that university. That determination is the most important impetus that propelled him into his current state.
Coming from an average-income home, Professor Dwomoh ensured that he took his education seriously. His hard work was rewarded as he gained admission to the prestigious Opoku Ware Senior High School. Passing out with distinction, AR 206 was admitted to pursue Bachelor of Secretaryship at the University of Cape Coast which he eventually graduated with first class honours. There was no turning back as he continued to the United Kingdom to pursue Master of Business Administration (Finance) programme at the Lincoln University. Upon his return to Ghana, he pursued his second Masters’ degree at KNUST and continued to the Costa Rica Business School to pursue a PhD.
His teaching career started with Sunyani Polytechnic (now Sunyani Technical University) and later joined Kumasi Technical University in 2009. Through a dint of hard work and perseverance, Prof. Dwomoh has been rising steadily to his current rank. His research prowess spans across a wide area mainly focusing on Expatriate Management, Human Resource Management, as well as Industrial Relations. One of his major research works that he is so proud of and believes has contributed to the development of KsTU is the “Knowledge and Skills Gap of Technical Universities in Ghana” whose recommendations triggered a workshop that was conducted for staff of the University.
Prof. Dwomoh is a family man who is married with four children and enjoys watching football (Manchester City) and movies during his leisure hours. He advises budding young lecturers to stay focused and know that everything is achievable if you diligently commit yourself to it. Prof is full of praise and gratitude to his father, who left no stone unturned to ensure that he could travel to the UK to pursue his Masters’ degree.
Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh is currently the newly appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor of this noble institution after serving as the Director of International Affairs and Institutional Linkages where his initiatives led to increase in enrolment of international students. He has also previously served in other positions including Dean of Faculty of Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development and as the Director of Institute of Research, Innovation and Development.
