Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has taken a bold step onto the global stage after formally signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Alvernia University in the United States. The agreement was sealed at the O’Pake Institute for Economic Development and Entrepreneurship during a courtesy call by KsTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, and the Registrar, Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye. Representing Alvernia University were the President Dr. Glynis Fitzgerald and the Chief Community, Economic and Strategic Development Officer, Dr. Rodney S. Ridley, Sr.
This partnership opens new doors for meaningful collaboration in research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and international academic engagement. At the heart of the agreement is a clear focus on turning ideas into real-world solutions that benefit both institutions and the communities they serve.
A major highlight of the partnership is Alvernia University’s strong interest in KsTU’s groundbreaking regenerative electric vehicle, recently unveiled by the University’s Automotive engineering team. Through the O’Pake Institute’s Technology Transfer Office, both universities will work together on the commercialisation of this innovation and other research outputs. Plans include technical validation, co-development, and connecting the project with international investors and industry partners.
Beyond the vehicle project, the two universities will develop joint academic programmes in areas such as economic and community development, entrepreneurship, and innovation commercialisation. They will also facilitate student and faculty exchanges, organise joint conferences and workshops, pursue shared funding opportunities, and explore study abroad pathways for students.
Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh expressed confidence that the partnership will significantly boost KsTU’s ambition to become a leading hub for applied research and technological innovation in West Africa. For Alvernia University, the collaboration aligns with its commitment to impactful economic development and community transformation.
This agreement marks the beginning of a strategic alliance that brings Ghanaian ingenuity into the conversation with global expertise. With the regenerative electric vehicle as a flagship project, KsTU is positioning itself to deliver solutions that address real challenges in sustainable transportation while creating new opportunities for students, researchers, and entrepreneurs.
The future looks promising as both institutions begin translating this agreement into concrete actions that drive academic excellence and economic impact.
