A. POST-GRADUATE PROGRAMMES

i. Master of Technology in Water and Environmental Engineering 

Entry Requirements

The duration of the Master of Technology programme is two (2) years. To be admitted into the M.Tech. Water and Environmental Engineering programme, applicants must:

a. BTech or BSc degree in either Civil or Chemical Engineering; OR

b. First degree in a relevant Engineering-related discipline. Additionally, applicants must have at least two (2) years industrial or work experience

and must pass a selection interview if degree is a second class lower or pass division. OR

c. HND Holder in either Civil or Chemical Engineering with six (6) years industrial experience and

must pass a selection interview as well as six (6) months topup course before admission into the programme

ii. Master of Technology in Applied Statistics (Environmental Statistics)

Entry Requirements

The duration of the Master of Technology programme is two (2) years, and to gain admission to the programme, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:

BTech or BSc Statistics/Environmental Statistics or equivalent qualification. All applicants must have a minimum of one (1) year post-qualification industrial experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with 1st class and 2nd class upper division.

First class BTech Environmental Statistics applicants may be admitted without the post-graduation industrial experience.

Applicants with a second class (lower division) or lower qualifications must pass a selection interview before admission into the programme.

iii. Master of Technology in Applied Statistics (Health Statistics)

Entry Requirements

The duration of the Master of Technology programme is two (2) years, and to gain admission to the programme, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:

BTech or BSc Biostatistics/Health Statistics/or equivalent qualification. All applicants must have a minimum of one (1) year post-qualification industrial experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with first class and second class upper division. First class BTech Health Statistics applicants may be admitted without the post-graduation industrial experience.

Applicants with a second class (lower division) or lower qualifications must pass a selection interview before admission into the programme.

Applicants with other Statistics or Mathematics backgrounds would be required to take relevant Health Science courses as prerequisites.

iv. Master of Technology in Applied Statistics (Financial Statistics)

Entry Requirements

The duration of the Master of Technology programme is two (2) years, and to gain admission to the programme, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements: 

BTech or BSc Statistics, Financial Statistics, Economics.

All applicants must have a minimum of one (1) year post-qualification industrial experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with 1st class and 2nd class upper division.

First class BTech Financial Statistics applicants may be admitted without the post-graduation industrial experience.

Applicants with a second class (lower division) or lower qualifications must pass a selection interview before admission into the programme.

Applicants with other Statistics or Mathematics backgrounds would be required to take relevant Financial Science courses as prerequisites.

v. Master of Science in Chemical Engineering

 Entry Requirements

The duration of the Master of Science programme is two (2) years. To gain admission to the programme, an applicant must satisfy the following minimum entry requirements:

BTech or BSc Chemical Engineering or equivalent qualification from a recognised Institution.

Applicants must have a minimum of one (1) year post-graduation or equivalent industrial experience.

Preference will be given to applicants with first class and second class upper division and may be admitted without the postgraduation industrial experience. Applicants with a second class (lower division)

or lower qualifications must pass a selection interview before admission into the programme.

vi. Master of Technology in Construction Technology

Entry Requirements

First degree holders with a minimum of Second Class (Lower) Division in the following fields:

Building Technology, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, Infrastructure Planning,

Real Estate or any other relevant field. Applicants with a second class (lower division) or lower qualifications must pass a selection interview before admission into the programme.

Master of Technology in Accounting Information Systems

Entry Requirements

a. BTech Accounting or BSc. Accounting or equivalent qualification. Preference will be given to applicants with 1st class and 2nd class upper division.

First Class BTech/BCom/BSc Admin Accounting applicants may be admitted without post-graduation industrial experience.

b. BSc Administration or BCom with at least two years working experience in accounting and finance portfolios.

c. BTech/BSc Finance or equivalent with industrial experience.

d. Applicants with an MBA or equivalent may also apply. e. Applicants with CFE, ICA, ACCA, CIMA or its equivalence may apply.

f. Foreign applicants from accredited/recognized institutions would be considered for admission in consultation with the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission for the determination of equivalences for qualifications.

g. Applicants working in law enforcement agencies who have accounting background will have an added advantage.

Basic Entry Requirements for Four (4) year Degree Programmes

a. WASSCE /SSSCE/GBCE Candidates

Credit Passes (A1-C6 /A-D) in three (3) core subjects including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credit passes in three (3) related elective subjects.
     
b. GCE ‘O’ Level Candidates

Five (5) credits including English Language, Mathematics and two (2) elective subjects.
      
c.  Mature Candidates

i) Must be 25 years old with legitimate documentary proof which is at least five (5) years old at the time of application.

ii) Must have at least two (2) years work experience (A letter from employer is required)

iii) Must pass a written examination or show proof of two (2) credit passes in English language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any other nationally recognised standard high school level examinations.

iv) A pass in any two (2) subjects at Senior High School, ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, GBC, RSAII.

d. HND Candidates

i) Applicants with HND certificate will be admitted to level 300.

e. Advanced Level and Professional Candidates

i. Candidates with part of Professional Certificates with a minimum of Part 1 of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, Association of Certified Chartered Accountants, Chartered Institute of Marketing, Chartered Institute of Bankers, Chartered Institute of Taxation, Chartered Institute of Secretaries and Administrators, London Centre of Marketing, Institute of Commercial Management, the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (Diploma or level 4) etc. may be considered for admission.

ii. Candidates with Teachers' Certificate 'A' and a pass in English, Mathematics and two business related subjects at the GCE 'O' level or Senior High School or GBC or RSAII etc may be considered for admission.

iii. RSAIII/ABC holders with passes in at least three (3) subjects may be considered for admission into level 100 or 200.

f. DBS or other Non-Tertiary Diploma holders

i) Candidates with passes in at least four (4) subjects may be considered for admission to level 100 or 200.

Basic Entry Requirements for Bachelor of Technology (Top-Up ) Degree Programmes
g. HND Candidates
Candidates must have HND (First class or second class upper division) in their respective field of study. Second Class lower division holders must pass a selection interview.
h. OTHER Requirements for some Specific Programmes
• Bachelor of Technology in Chemical Engineering
Applicants with other Engineering and Chemistry backgrounds would be required to take relevant Chemical Engineering and Chemistry Courses as prerequisites.
• Bachelor of Technology in Electrical/Electronic Engineering
Applicants with Electrical Engineering Technician Part III (EETIII)
i) Must pass a bridging course for the duration of two (2) semesters.
ii) Must possess EETI, EETII, and EETIII certification.
• Bachelor of Technology in Accounting with Computing
i) ACCA and ICA holders with passes in six (6) or more subjects. OR
ii) First Degree holders from other fields or discipline may apply
• Bachelor of Technology in Procurement and Supply Chain Management
i) Applicants with Diploma in Procurement & Supply from the Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply (CIPS UK) qualification may apply.
ii) HND Graduates from other fields or disciplines with a qualification not less than a minimum of second class lower division with at least five (5) years work experience in procurement related fields.
iii) First Degree Graduates from other fields or discipline may apply.
• Bachelor of Technology in Building Technology
Holders of CTC II Final (old scheme) or CTC III Final (new scheme) with at least passes in all the four (4) major components.
Also credit in English Language and Mathematics at GCE ‘O’ Level or SSSCE/WASSCE Level shall be required.
• Bachelor of Technology in Fashion Design and Modeling
HND Applicants with equivalent qualifications to HND Fashion Design from a recognised institution would be required to pass an interview.
• Bachelor of Technology in Health Statistics/ Environmental Statistics/Financial Statistics
Other Diploma qualifications from elsewhere assessed to be equivalent to HND may be similarly considered.
• Bachelor of Technology in Secretaryship and Mgt. Studies
Professional Diploma/Diploma from a recognised institution with a minimum of second class upper division.
• Bachelor of Technology in Hospitality Management and Catering Technology
Degree holders from Hospitality and Catering related programmes after being interviewed.
• Qualification of Access in Building Technology
i) Candidates must pass at least three (3) of the four (4) major components including Construction Practice and Applied Technology and
Site Experience at CTC III or CTC II final (old scheme) including passes in their corresponding project works.
ii) Others: HND Estate Management, HND Civil Engineering, HND Interior Architecture and Furniture Production.

Basic Entry Requirments for Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme  and Higher Diploma (HD) Programmes

a. WASSCE /SSSCE/GBCE Candidates

Passes (A1-D7 /A-D) in three (3) core subjects including English Language, Core Mathematics and Integrated Science plus credit passes in three (3) related elective subjects.

b. ABCE/ ‘O’&’A’ Level Applicants

Five (5) ABCE credits or five (5) GCE Ordinary Level credits including English Language and Mathematics plus at least two (2) GCE ‘A’ Level/ABCE passes.

c. GBCE Applicants

Five (5) GBCE credits including English, Business Mathematics and Integrated Science/Social Studies.

d. DBS Applicants

Four (4) SSSCE/WASSCE credits including English Language and Mathematics plus at least three (3) DBS passes.

e. Technical School Applicants

(Certificate II) Passes in English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science plus any three (3) relevant trade courses.

f. Mature Applicants

a) Must be 25 years old and show proof of age with birth certificate or any legitimate documentary proof of birth date which is at least five (5) years old at the time of application.

b) Have at least two (2) years work experience (A letter from the employer is required) and must pass a written examination conducted by the University.

c) Mature applicants applying for HND Dispensing Technology/Medical Laboratory Technology/Science and Industrial Laboratory Technology should have relative hospital/industrial experience with ‘O’ Level/ WASSCE/SSSCE pure Science background (Chemistry and Biology) as well as credits in English and Mathematics (core)

F. HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES  (TOP-UP)

     Higher Diploma in Health Statistics (Regular/Evening)  

       Entry Requirement
          Applicants must have two-year Diploma.

G. ONE YEAR (Top-Up) HND DISPENSING TECHNOLOGY

A one year top-up Dispensing Technology programme leading to HND Dispensing Technology, technical courses or its equivalent.

Entry Requirements

a) Dispensing Technician Certificate holders must have overall credit and also, credit in Chemistry, in Dispensing Technician Part III Examination of Technical Examination Unit. OR

b) Must have passed the Access Course organised by the Department of Dispensing Technology, Kumasi Technical University.

H. TERTIARY DIPLOMA PROGRAMMES

  1. Diploma in Construction Technology
  2. Diploma in Computerized Accounting

Basic Entry Requirements for Tertiary Diploma Programme

Diploma in Construction Technology

a) WASSCE/SSSCE Candidates:

Passes (A1-D7 /A-D) in three (3) core subjects including English Language, Core Mathematics, plus credit passes in three (3) relevant Elective subjects from the following:

Physics, Elective Mathematics, Chemistry, Building Construction, Wood/Metal Work, Technical Drawing, Science, Economics and Geography.

b) GCE Mature Candidates may apply

c) Construction Technician Course Part 1 (CTC 1) graduates can apply.

d) All WASSCE/SSSCE holders who obtained grades (E8/F) in English Language or Mathematics) with passes in the Elective Subjects listed in point (a) above will be required to undergo a semester access course, to foster their enrollment.

e) Intermediate Certificate II holders with minimum of a Pass in Three (3) Electives and Three (3) Core subjects including core Mathematics and English Language.

Diploma in Computerized Accounting

a) SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants

Six (6) passes including English and Core Mathematics. It is not a requirement to have learnt accounting in prior education.

b) O’LEVEL/GBCE AND A’LEVEL/ABCE

Applicants Five (5) passes in O’ Level/GBCE including English Language and Mathematics

c) MATURE Applicants

i) Must be 25 years and above

ii) Must provide documentary evidence of relevant work experience

iii) Must pass a departmental examination and interview

I. NON-HND TERTIARY PROGRAMMES

Mass Communication & Journalism

Entry Requirements

a. SSSCE/WASSCE Applicants
Applicants must have credit pass in two core subjects including English Language, Mathematics Integrated Science or Social Studies and credits
passes in any two elective subjects. The total aggregate for the five subjects should not exceed 24 and 36 for SSSCE and WASSCE respectively.

b. Mature Applicants

  • Must be at least 25 years.
  • Must have SSCCE/WASSCE passes in any for subjects including English Language.
  • Must pass a written examination and an interview.
  • Must have been in the media industry for at least two years.

Diploma in Hospitality Operations and Management (In Collaboration with Presbyterian Centre for Vocational Instructor’s Development - PRECEVID)

Entry Requirements

a. SSSCE/WASSCE/GCE ‘O’ LevelApplicants

Passes in six (6) subjects including Core English Language and Mathematics.

b. Mature Applicants

Must be at least 25 years with Senior High School Education and must pass an interview.

c. Holders of Technical Examinations Unit Certificates

i) Passes in Old Intermediate catering or NVTI Grade 1in Catering.

ii) New Intermediate: Passes in four (4) subjects including Core English Language and Mathematics.

iii) Advanced Catering: Passes in all subjects would be admitted at level 200 of the programme.

K. PROFESSIONAL PROGRAMMES (Only Weekends)

    a. Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT)

i. International Certificate in Logistics and Transport (CILT): Six (6) Months

ii.. International Diploma in Logistics and Transport (DILT): The programme covers two (2) semesters

iii. International Advanced Diploma in Logistics and Transport (ADILT): The programme covers three (3) semesters.

Entry Requirements

• CILT: Senior High School (SHS), GCE Ordinary or Advanced Levels, HND, First Degree, Masters and/or (equivalencies) coupled with adequate relevant work experience.

Mature applicants may be considered at appropriate level.

• DILT: Possession of the International Certificate in Logistics and Transport of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport OR

Possession of a University first degree and/or HND (or equivalencies) coupled with relevant areas of study. In addition, participants must have worked in a Logistics and Transport environment for a minimum of three (3) years.

• ADILT: Possession of the International Diploma in Logistics and Transport of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport OR

First Degree/ Masters in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transport, or related discipline with accredited institution.

b. Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghanaian (ICAG)

Entry Requirements

SHS Graduates, Diploma Graduates, HND Graduates, BTech/BSc Graduates, MTech/MSc/MBA Graduates and related qualifications.

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
