Kumasi Technical University Unveils Renovated Restaurant with Cutting-Edge Equipment and New Management

Kumasi Technical University celebrated a momentous occasion on Monday as the University’s restaurant was officially reopened under new management. The highly anticipated event marked the culmination of extensive renovations and the installation of state-of-the-art equipment. The reopening of the restaurant aims to provide an enhanced dining experience for both students and patrons while also serving as a practical space for students at the Department of Hotel, Catering, and Institutional Management (HCIM). 

Mrs. Priscilla Osae Akonnor, the Head of the HCIM department, expressed her enthusiasm for the reopening of the restaurant. She highlighted the purpose behind the renovation and emphasized that this event also served as an opportunity to showcase the new equipment. Mrs. Akonnor extended her gratitude to the management of Kumasi Technical University for their additional support in donating equipment, further enhancing the resources available to the department.

In a goodwill message delivered by Prof. Felix Engmann, the Dean of the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology, he emphasized that the newly renovated restaurant would be dedicated solely to commercial purposes, ensuring a high-quality dining experience for customers. Prof. Engmann also stressed that the restaurant would serve as a practical training ground for HCIM students, providing them with valuable hands-on experience in the hospitality industry. 

The Vice-Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Osei-Wusu Achaw  also took the opportunity to address the audience and highlight the significance of partnerships between various departments. He noted that change in leadership had always been aimed at bringing fresh perspectives and improvements. He acknowledged the efforts of the former Head of the Department, Dr. Vida Commey, for championing this innovative endeavor. The Vice-Chancellor further expressed his amazement at how students managed to utilize the outdated facilities and commended the team for transforming the restaurant to meet the standards expected of a university of Kumasi Technical University’s caliber. 

The reopening of the University restaurant signifies a new era for culinary excellence and practical learning at KsTU. With the renovations complete and the addition of modern equipment, students, staff, and the wider community can look forward to an enhanced dining experience in an inviting and contemporary setting.

As Kumasi Technical University takes this leap forward, it solidifies its commitment to providing students with a comprehensive education that goes beyond theory. The renovated restaurant stands as a testament to the university’s dedication to equipping students with practical skills and enabling them to thrive in the competitive hospitality industry.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
