KsTU Celebrates Its Maiden Alumni Day

The Kumasi Technical University Alumni Association on Saturday, 3rd December 2022, held its maiden edition of the Alumni Day celebration on the theme “the role of alumni in the development of higher technical education” at the New Great Hall.

In his address, Ing. Professor Osei-Wusu, Vice-Chancellor of the University, indicated that alumni engagement is at the heart of the University’s agenda as it plays a pivotal role in the advancement of the University. Highlighting some of the roles the alumni had played towards the advancement of the University, the Vice-Chancellor noted that the alumni front had galvanized efforts to improve the quality of student life. “Alumni relations provide students with significant opportunities for growth and development such as organizing mentorship programmes and providing externship and internship opportunities as well as job placements” he noted.

The Vice-Chancellor, on his part, assured Alumni of constant engagement and added that the role of Alumni in the development and management of the University is indispensable. He recalled that the former Vice-Chancellor had drawn his attention to the numerous contributions of the Alumni to the development of the University. The Vice-Chancellor called on the Executives to reach out to dormant members to keep the spirit of the alumni alive.

Speaking at the first-ever alumni homecoming celebration, Ogonahene and alumnus of the KsTU, Nana Osei Boateng Agyenim is imploring the government and stakeholders to give utmost attention to vocational and technical education.

The Alumni Day celebration assembled alumni groups and personalities of all year groups. The celebration is a build-up to formalize the alumni groups and build a vibrant association to foster the cause of the institution.

Abdallah Ali-Nakyea, a Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana School of law and alumnus of KsTU. He entreated the alumni to reach out to the institution and members through the implementation of network avenues. He believes an endowment fund would help the institution attain its needs.

The alumni constitution and continuation of IMC were proposed and accepted by the congress to elect the official executives and rep for the Governing Council. 

About KsTU

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
