Kumasi Technical University Holds 16th Congregation Through Virtual Means
The 16th Congregation of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) was held on 27th February, 2021 at the New Great Hall of the University with 3,546 people graduating. This comprised students who completed their various programmes of study in the 2019/2020 academic year. Out of the 3,546 graduands, only first class students were allowed to be physically present at the programme. The graduands received certificates in Master of Technology (MTech), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), Higher National Diploma (HND), Professional and other Diplomas.
The Virtual Congregation programme which was streamed live on Facebook, Youtube and Twitter on the day was necessitated by the prevailing national COVID-19 safety protocols which prescribe guidelines for gatherings involving large numbers. The Vice-Chancellor of the University Ing. Prof Osei-Wusu Achaw, congratulated the graduands for their dedication, courage and commitment in completing that level of their academic journey.
The Ing Professor said, the University was striving to ensure that the quality of its programmes is improved all the time and therefore, constantly follow the global trends to inform the content of the academic programmes. He appealed to the government to “extend its kind gesture of providing Wifi in the traditional universities and the senior high schools to the technical universities so that the burden of providing Wifi service to enable staff and students undertake virtual learning activities will be decreased”. He also pleaded with the government for clearance so as to enable the University recruit additional staff to meet the Ghana Tertiary Education commission (GTEC) norm of 1:18, since the student-lecture ratio is unusually high when measured against the GTEC norm.
The VC also congratulated the staff of the University for their hard work and support in attaining the recent feat of being the Best Technical University in Ghana. He encouraged the lecturers to continue to be more “resourceful, inventive and supportive” so that the University becomes a world-class technical university as envisaged.
He advised the graduands to improve their skills and not rely so much on their certificates.
