Kumasi Technical University Holds 21st Congregation Ceremony

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) marked a significant academic milestone with its 21st Congregation ceremony, held on Saturday, 16th November 2024, at the New Great Hall on the University's main campus. The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of 1,642 students who graduated across various programmes, including Master of Technology (MTech), Bachelor of Technology (BTech), and Diploma programmes.
The graduating class comprised 19 Masters’ degree holders, 1,316 Bachelor of Technology graduates, and 314 Diploma recipients. Among the BTech graduates, 266 had first-class honours, 910 earned second-class upper, 139 attained second-class lower division while 1 received a pass. For Diploma graduates, 45 earned first class, 196 had second class upper, 70 got second class lower, and 3 received passes.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, congratulated the graduands for their dedication and hard work which had resulted in their academic achievements. Highlighting the Institution’s growth, Prof. Dwomoh noted a steady increase in the enrolment numbers and emphasised KsTU's distinctiveness in offering cutting-edge programmes. He indicated that KsTU runs programmes at the various levels including one Doctorate, 31 Master’s, 66 Bachelor’s, 24 Higher National Diplomas (HNDs), and 33 Diploma programmes.
Prof. Dwomoh proudly announced the accreditation of 40 new postgraduate and undergraduate programmes in the 2023/2024 academic year. These include one PhD in Applied Statistics, 17 Masters’, 6 Bachelors’, 15 Tertiary Diplomas, and one Non-tertiary Diploma programme.
The Vice-Chancellor further underscored the various infrastructural developments taking place in the University, including the almost completed state-of-the-art faculty building for the Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology at the Adako Jachie campus, a newly constructed police post at the Asem campus and the establishment of a Banking Simulation and Training Centre in collaboration with Zenith bank.
This year’s event was unique, as students from the internal University programmes graduated separately from students to be certificated by Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET). Prof. Dwomoh expressed optimism that this approach would ensure timely graduation of students.
The Deputy Minister of Education (TVET), Prof. Kingsley Nyarko, lauded the government for the initiatives to enhance quality and accessible education. He encouraged the graduands to take pride in their achievements and contribute meaningfully to society.
The ceremony was crowned with a valedictory address by the overall Best Graduating Student, Gabriel Bayiborow, who expressed gratitude to his family, lecturers, and peers for their unwavering support. He shared his personal struggles and triumphs, inspiring his fellow graduands to embrace challenges as a stepping stone to greatness.
The KsTU choir added a melodious touch to the event, making the day even more memorable. The 21st Congregation of Kumasi Technical University was a celebration of excellence, resilience and the transformative power of education, setting the stage for future achievements as the University continues to grow and innovate.
