Kumasi Technical University Signs MoU with Kasapreko Company Limited for Industry-Academic Collaboration

In a groundbreaking move that will bridge the gap between industry and academia, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kasapreko Company Limited (KCL). Led by the esteemed Vice Chancellor, Ing. Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw, a delegation from KsTU sealed this partnership on Friday, 9th August 2023.

Kasapreko Company Limited, a renowned industry player, will play a crucial role in offering practical training to students in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, specifically in the fields of Electrical and Electronics, Chemical, and Mechanical engineering. This collaboration aims to establish a framework for cooperation between KsTU and KCL in supporting industry and academic collaboration, focusing on the practical and professional training of students.

The MoU encompasses several key objectives. Firstly, it aims to establish an Awards Scheme called the Kasapreko Excellence Award, which will recognise the best-graduating engineering students in the fields of Electrical, Mechanical, and Chemical engineering. This initiative will motivate students to strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

Furthermore, the partnership will facilitate the development of an industry-relevant curriculum, ensuring that students are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge required by the industry. This proactive approach will enable students to seamlessly transition into the professional world upon graduation.

The MoU also emphasizes the provision of access to KsTU staff and students through internships, research opportunities, and continuous professional development programs. This will enable KsTU students and faculty to benefit from KCL's industry expertise and gain practical insights, thereby enhancing their academic and professional growth.

This partnership between KsTU and KCL sets a precedent for industry-academic collaborations, demonstrating the university's dedication to providing students with holistic and industry-relevant education. As the two institutions move forward, this MoU will serve as a solid foundation for future collaborative initiatives and contribute to the overall growth and development of the engineering and technology sectors in Ghana.
