Kumasi Technical University is Set to Commence PhD Programmes
In keeping with its core values of integrity, pacesetting, commitment and equal opportunities, Kumasi Technical University is indeed setting the pace in postgraduate studies to further solidify its position as the leader in higher education.
KsTU has received a policy approval from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) to run PhD in Applied Statistics.
In addition to the PhD in Applied Statistics, applications in connection with six other disciplines are before GTEC for consideration to run PhD programmes in those areas. The areas include PhD in Built Environment and the Doctor of Engineering (D.Eng) programme in Civil Engineering, with options in Construction Engineering Management, Structures, Road and Highway Engineering in addition to Water and Environmental Engineering. Furthermore, Doctor of Engineering programme in Chemical Engineering is also under consideration.
The decision to introduce these new programmes underscores KsTU's commitment to addressing the evolving needs of various sectors and industries. The PhD in Applied Statistics for which a policy approval has been secured is aimed to equip students with comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge to meet the growing demand for statistical expertise across diverse fields. This programme emphasises the application of statistical methods to solve real-world business challenges and it is designed to foster independent research capabilities for prospective students.
After this policy approval, the regulator (GTEC) will follow it up with an assessment of staffing and facilities to be sure that KsTU is indeed ready to roll out the PhD programme.
Importantly, these PhD programmes will be opened to both local and international applicants, reflecting KsTU's commitment to diversity, inclusivity and internationalisation in higher education. With the introduction of these programmes, KsTU has significantly expanded its academic coverage.
As one of the economic functions of education is to produce the quantum of manpower needed by the economy, KsTU is not oblivious of that. The Institution will continue working hard in that direction to further widen the frontiers of knowledge.
Kumasi Technical University remains steadfast in its mission to empower individuals through quality education and research.
