KsTU Hosts Health Screening and Blood Donation Exercise in Celebration of 70th Anniversary
As part of activities marking its 70th anniversary, Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) organised a health screening and blood donation exercise for members of the Asem and Amakom communities, their immediate environs, and the entire KsTU community. The event took place at a venue between Jubilee Park and Asem School and saw hundreds of participants benefiting from essential medical services.
Professional health officers conducted comprehensive medical consultations, provided appropriate medications, and educated beneficiaries on health-related issues to promote overall well-being. Students from Kumasi Technical University actively supported the initiative, ensuring the smooth execution of the exercise.
The screenings included tests for Fasting Blood Sugar (FBS), sickling, blood group determination, haemoglobin (HB) level checks and eye screening, along with other vital health assessments.
The initiative not only aimed to improve the immediate health of participants but also laid the foundation for long-term health benefits within the community.
Speaking at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, emphasised that the initiative is part of the University’s corporate social responsibility. He highlighted the importance of early disease detection, stating that identifying health conditions early, followed by appropriate treatment and management, can lead to better outcomes and lower the risk of serious complications.
Dr. Natasha Asamoah, the medical director of the University Clinic present at the screening, reinforced that the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, which promotes good health and well-being. She commended KsTU for its commitment to fostering better health in the community and strengthening collaborations that benefit society.
The health screening and blood donation exercise not only addressed immediate health concerns but also contributed to improving long-term health awareness and well-being within the community. This initiative reflects KsTU’s dedication to making a positive social impact and ensuring the well-being of the people it serves.
