KsTU Hosts DAAD Delegation and German University Leaders to Deepen Academic Collaboration

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has hosted a high-level delegation of about 21 German university presidents, vice-presidents and provosts as part of efforts to strengthen academic cooperation and deepen strategic ties between Ghanaian and German institutions.

The week-long visit to Ghana, organised by the DAAD under its Higher Education Policy Information Visit, provided a platform for direct engagement between senior university leadership, partner institutions and policymakers, offering first-hand insight into opportunities for collaboration.

The delegation was received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh and his management who warmly welcomed the guests and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to internationalisation and strategic partnerships. He highlighted key areas of collaboration including capacity building, joint research initiatives, staff and student exchange programmes, training opportunities, and scholarships.

The Dean of International Affairs and Institutional Linkages, Prof. Sarfo Mensah, delivered a comprehensive presentation on KsTU’s academic programmes, global partnerships, and strategic vision, outlining the University’s readiness to expand its international footprint.

Discussions during the visit emphasised the importance of strengthening research systems and addressing critical research questions through institutional collaboration. The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University is advancing plans to establish a dedicated Institute for Research to drive innovation and provide solutions to societal and industrial challenges.

As part of their visit, the delegation toured the University’s Adako Jachie Campus, where they visited the newly commissioned Faculty of Creative Arts and Technology (FCAT) Block and the AVIC International Laboratory. The team also engaged with various Deans and Heads of Department to explore possible areas of academic and research collaboration.

The DAAD is a joint organisation of more than 300 German institutions of higher education and student bodies, running over 250 programmes that support international academic exchange and research cooperation. Through such initiatives, DAAD continues to foster mutual exchange of students and researchers between Germany and the rest of the world.

The visit marks a significant step in KsTU’s drive to build strong international partnerships and position itself as a hub for globally relevant research, innovation and technical education.
