Chinese Delegation Visits KsTU

Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) on Thursday, 16th February, 2017 received a delegation from the Chinese Embassy in Ghana which was led by the Ambassador Miss Sun Baihung. The visit of the Chinese Ambassador which was her second to the Institution was aimed at further cementing the already existing collaboration between China and KsTU. She further intimated that the Chinese government was ready to assist five institutions in the country in upgrading their facilities of which KsTU would be considered.

The visit was part of her official assignment in the Ashanti Region to commission some projects including an ICT centre and a classroom block for a basic school. The Chinese delegation included Lian Quinshang, Tang R. Zhangyi as well as Eric Tsa and Danny Mawuenyega of the Ghana-China Friendship Association.

The Acting Vice Chancellor, Ing. Prof. Nana Osei-Wusu Achaw who stood in for the Interim Vice Chancellor Prof. Asiamah Yeboah, welcomed and thanked the Chinese Embassy for supporting the Institution over the last seven years. Prof. Osei-Wusu Achaw recounted some of the positive contributions that the Chinese people have made to the development of KsTU including the presence of a Chinese Learning Centre with a Chinese Lecturer to teach the Chinese language. He also mentioned a cash donation that the Institution received through the Chinese Embassy.

He urged the Chinese government to continue to support the Institution and to also consider KsTU in its policy of upgrading five institutions in the country. He reiterated that the partnership would be mutually beneficial as KsTU was ready to offer training in local languages and Ghanaian culture to the Chinese nationals. The Ambassador used the occasion to donate some books and other learning materials to the Institution to aid in the teaching and learning of Chinese language. She was grateful for the warm reception accorded her by the University despite the short notification of the visit. She assured the Institution of the Chinese government’s commitment to the partnership as well as its continuous support to the Institution.
