KsTU Explores Collaboration with Islamic University in Uganda
Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) on Thursday, 19th September 2025, hosted a high-powered delegation from the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) at the Council Chamber of the University. The visit formed part of IUIU’s preparations to establish its Faculty of Engineering and Technology in the 2026/2027 academic year. The delegation expressed keen interest in learning from KsTU’s extensive expertise in Mechanical, Civil, and Electrical Engineering education.
The delegation was warmly received by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, together with the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Planning and Quality Assurance, the Director of International Affairs, Deans of Faculties, and Heads of Departments.
Prof. Dwomoh suggested that the delegation should carefully assess the staff profile of universities they intend to collaborate with, emphasising that the development of new faculties requires specialised staff to properly define and sustain robust curricula. He reiterated KsTU’s openness to partnerships in key areas such as staff and student mobility, joint conferences, joint research, and capacity building, with the possibility of expanding into other areas.
The Vice-Chancellor also asked the delegation on their choice of four specific programmes for collaboration. In response, the IUIU team explained that there is a huge market demand in their region, particularly for Civil Engineering, which informed their decision.

As part of the engagement, the Director of International Affairs presented the profile of KsTU to the visitors, while the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Julius Ahiekpor, gave a comprehensive overview of the University and its achievements.
The IUIU delegation expressed their interest in collaborations covering areas in academic, student, and faculty exchange; joint research and training programmes; capacity building and visiting fellowships and organising and participating in joint conferences and seminars.

During an interactive session, the team from KsTU shared their comments and posed questions, paving the way for meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding.
The programme concluded with a guided tour of KsTU’s Asem and Adako Jachie campuses, where the delegation was introduced to the University’s state-of-the-art facilities, laboratories, and innovations.
This collaboration underscores KsTU and IUIU’s mutual commitment to strengthening engineering education across Africa through knowledge sharing, capacity building, and strategic partnerships.
