A brief but significant ceremony was held on Wednesday, 25th September 2024, at Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) to officially hand over the site for the construction of a 200-bed capacity hostel near the Pat Carless Hall on the main campus of the University. The project is being undertaken by GEOFRA Construction Works Limited and it is expected to be completed within three years.

During the ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, presented the Architectural, Services and Structural drawings to Mr. Frank Coffie, the CEO of GEOFRA Construction Works Limited. He emphasised that the drawings are to guide the construction process and ensure that the project meets the required standards and specifications.

Prof. Dwomoh congratulated Mr. Coffie and his team for winning the contract through a competitive bidding process. He expressed confidence in GEOFRA Construction’s ability to deliver a high-quality project within the stipulated timeframe, given their solid track record in previous works, including projects for KNUST and other institutions.

“I charge you and your team to work diligently and ensure that this project is delivered on time, without compromising on quality,” Prof. Dwomoh stated.

Ms. Nana Yaa Adusa-Poku (Deputy Director at the Works and Physical Development Directorate) also addressed the gathering, reminding the contractor that the project will be closely monitored by the Directorate of Works and Physical Development. She assured the contractor of the University's support and commitment to periodic site meetings and inspections to ensure compliance with professional standards.

“The University’s practices demand periodic site meetings to ensure that the right thing is done, and we expect both parties to collaborate closely to deliver a project that meets the expectations of the University community,” she said.

In his response, Mr. Frank Coffie thanked the University for the opportunity and assured all stakeholders that GEOFRA Construction will work tirelessly to complete the project on or even before the scheduled time of completion. He reaffirmed the company’s dedication to delivering value for money and meeting the University’s standards.

Once completed, the 200-bed hostel will help KsTU accommodate more students and provide them with the much needed comfort and convenience. This initiative is part of the University’s broader effort to improve student welfare and enhance the overall campus experience.

The project marks another milestone in KsTU's ongoing infrastructural development efforts, and the University community is eagerly looking forward to its successful completion.
