KsTU's Sports Personalities Honored by the Vice-Chancellor and the Sports Directorate

Kumasi Technical University has always been known for its excellent academic programmes and dedication to its students' success. However, the University also places great importance on sports and athletics as an essential part of a student's holistic development.

On Tuesday, 25th April 2023, the Sports Directorate presented awards to deserving sportsmen and women during a short ceremony at the SRC Conference Hall for their outstanding participation in the 2022 Ghana Technical University Sports Association (GHATUSA) games. 

The short ceremony was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Ing. Prof. Osei Wusu-Achaw, in honour of student-athletes who participated and excelled at the 2022 GHATUSA games which happened at the Tamale Technical University.

The 2022 GHATUSA games were held from 14th to 19th November 2022 at the Tamale Technical University in the Northern Region of Ghana. The event brought together student-athletes from various technical universities in Ghana to compete in different sports disciplines, including football, basketball, volleyball, athletics, and others. 

KsTU's sports personalities gave an excellent account of themselves, winning several medals and showcasing their skills and talents on the field of play. The university's volleyball team, for instance, reached the quarter-finals of the competition, while the Tennis and athletics teams won gold, silver, and bronze medals in various events. The soccer team also performed well, putting up strong performances against their opponents.

Speaking at a ceremony held to honour the athletes, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Ing. Professor Osei-Wusu Achaw, praised the athletes for their excellent performance and urged them to continue working hard and representing the university with pride. He also thanked the Sports Directorate for its role in supporting the athletes and ensuring their success at the GHATUSA games.

The Director of Sports at KsTU, Mr. King David Ayensu, also expressed his gratitude to the athletes for their hard work and dedication, and their commitment to representing the university with honour. He noted that the success of the athletes was a result of their hard work and the support of the university’s sports department, and pledged to continue supporting the athletes to achieve their full potential.

The ceremony to honour KsTU's sports personalities was attended by staff, students, and other stakeholders of the university, who joined in celebrating the athletes' success. The event also provided an opportunity for the university to showcase its commitment to sports development and its efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle among its students.

In conclusion, KsTU's recognition and honour of its sports personalities for their participation in the 2022 GHATUSA games is a testament to the university's commitment to promoting sports development and supporting its student-athletes. The university's success at the event demonstrates the importance of hard work, dedication, and teamwork, and it is hoped that the athletes will continue to excel and bring glory to the university in future competitions.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
