KsTU Holds Orientation for Newly Appointed Deans, Directors, Vice Deans, and Heads of Department
The Human Resource Directorate of Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) has organised an orientation programme for newly appointed Directors, Deans, Vice Deans, and Heads of Department (HoDs) to equip them with the knowledge, skills, and institutional understanding necessary for effective leadership and administration.
The event, which forms part of the University’s annual leadership development process, brought together senior members who have recently assumed key administrative roles within the institution.
In her welcome remarks, Mrs. Mary Safowah Akom, Deputy Registrar in charge of Human Resource, expressed the hope that by the end of their workshop, they would be better trained to assume their respective offices and deliver their best. She explained that although the orientation had been delayed, it remained an essential part of the University’s governance culture.
Delivering his address, the Vice-Chancellor of KsTU, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, congratulated the newly appointed officers and commended them for earning their positions through merit and integrity rather than personal connections.
He described Deans and Heads of Department as some of the most important stakeholders of the University, serving as a critical link between management, faculty, and students.
“Your appointment is not about connection, but about integrity and commitment to service,” Prof. Dwomoh stated.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that within one or two years, the University would witness significant transformation in the departments and faculties under their care. He further explained that the orientation was designed not only to remind participants of their known administrative roles but also to expose them to new areas critical to the University’s operations, including finance, procurement, governance, and leadership.
He assured them of Management’s full support in providing the necessary resources to help them succeed in their new roles while urging them to work collaboratively to achieve the University’s strategic goals.
The Registrar of the University, Mr. Ebenezer Kofi Boakye, delivered a presentation on the theme:“The University Governance System: The Role of Heads of Department, Deans, and Directors.” Mr. Boakye’s presentation focused on the governance framework of the University and the vital role of effective communication, accountability, and collaboration among institutional leaders. He emphasised that every policy and administrative action must be guided by the University’s statutes and governance procedures.
The orientation also featured a joint presentation by the Director of Finance, Mr. Isaac Owusu Anasah, and the Budget officer, Mr. Kwaku Asiedu, who took participants through budget preparation, expenditure management, and financial accountability.
They explained the processes involved in planning, justifying, and monitoring departmental budgets, emphasising the need for fiscal discipline, transparency, and alignment with the University’s strategic objectives.
The session concluded with an interactive discussion, where participants sought clarification on financial procedures, governance issues, and leadership practices.
The orientation marks yet another step in KsTU’s commitment to strengthening institutional leadership and ensuring that its academic and administrative units operate efficiently in pursuit of excellence.
