Kumasi Technical University (KsTU) officially commissioned its state-of-the-art Banking Simulation and Training Centre, christened the “Zenith Bank – KsTU Banking Clinic.” This novel Banking clinic project was done in a partnership with Zenith Bank. The facility which also has a digital module was designed to bridge the gap between academic training and industry practice. The banking clinic promises to equip students with hands-on skills in modern banking operations and will also make electronic banking (e-banking) an integral part of its training.

The commissioning unfolded in two sessions, beginning with a formal ceremony at the University’s Council Chamber. Representatives from Zenith Bank, led by Mr. George Imbrah, Divisional Head of Zenith Bank Ghana, engaged with KsTU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Dwomoh, with Deans, Directors and other key stakeholders. The Zenith Bank delegation included Nana Ama Ahwoi, Head of Corporate Affairs & Digital Brand Marketing; Samuel Duncan, Branch Head of Zenith Bank Kumasi Main Branch, Ahodwo; and Ms. Brenda K. Obeng-Addae, Relationship Manager at the same branch.

In his address, Prof. Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, Dean of the Business School, emphasised the significance of the facility in today’s digital age. “This mock banking hall will help train students and keep them abreast with current banking practices,” he said. “In the long run, it will prepare lower-tier staff for the industry. This centre is crucial, as students will be taken through the entire banking process, ensuring that they are well-prepared for real-world challenges.”

Representing Zenith Bank, Mr. George Imbrah expressed gratitude to KsTU for the collaboration. “We are honoured to partner with KsTU in establishing this banking clinic. Moving directly from university to industry, we need to make an impact and support the University so that students will be aware of and responsive to current trends in the banking sector,” he remarked. He assured the University of Zenith Bank’s continued support, underscoring the bank’s commitment to nurturing young talents.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Gabriel Dwomoh highlighted the alignment of the initiative with KsTU’s mission as a technical university. “We are committed to competency-based training. Our uniqueness lies not only in STEM-related courses but also in the humanities, particularly, in the business-related programmes. This practical lab allows students to engage in real banking operations, with full integration of digital/e-banking which is in vogue”. he said. Expressing appreciation to Zenith Bank, he added, “Zenith Bank is not only here to maximise profit for shareholders but also to impact the younger generation. This benefits not just KsTU but the industry at large, and we hope others will take notice.”

Following the formal session, the delegation was given a tour of the Banking Clinic, where they witnessed firsthand the cutting-edge resources made possible through this collaboration. The facility promises to serve as a hub for experiential learning, equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive, digital-driven banking landscape.

The “Zenith Bank – KsTU Banking Clinic” stands as a testament to the power of partnerships between academia and industry, promising a brighter future for KsTU students and the broader financial ecosystem in Ghana.
