It is announced for the information of the general public that the Kumasi Technical University (KsTU), has introduced a NonScience to Engineering Pre-University Programme for Senior High School graduates with backgrounds in Business, General Arts and Visual Arts, Home Economics and Science students with weak grades who desire to pursue Engineering programmes at the tertiary level. Graduates from the Pre-engineering programme will be admitted into the following Degree Programmes of their choice: 

  • Civil Engineering
  • Automotive/Mechatronics
  • Engineering Oil and Gas Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering (Plant, production, Manufacturing, Foundry/Metallurgy)
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering
  • Building Services Engineering
  • Chemical Engineering 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A. Applicants with Non-Science Background

i. SSCE with three passes in Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies) plus any three passes in elective subjects (Business, General Arts, Visual Arts, Home Economics) with total aggregate not exceeding 30

ii. WASSCE with a minimum of credit score (C6) in core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies) plus any three passes in elective subjects (Business, General Arts, Visual Arts and Home Economics) with aggregate not exceeding 36.

B. Applicants with Science Background

i. SSCE with three passes in Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies) plus any two passes in elective subjects. ii. WASSCE with a minimum of credit score (C6) in core subjects (English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies) plus any two passes in elective subjects.

C. Mature Applicants

i. Must be 25 years old with legitimate documentary proof which is at least five (5) years old at the time of application.

ii. Must have at least two (2) years’ work experience (A letter from employer is required).

iii. Must pass a written examination or show proof of two (2) credit passes in English language and Mathematics in SSSCE/WASSCE or any other nationally recognized standard high school level examinations.

iv. A pass in any two (2) subjects at Senior High School, ‘O’ and ‘A’ levels, GBC, RSAII.

Objectives

The objectives of the pre-engineering programme are to:

  1. Equip students with knowledge of scientific principles in physics, chemistry, ICT, mathematics, and their relevance to engineering disciplines;
  2. Train students to acquire analytical and critical thinking skills needed to pursue engineering programmes at the university;
  3. Empower students to identify basic careers and disciplines in engineering;
  4. Accentuate their interest in engineering through science practical works and exposure to industry; and
  5. Provide progression path to higher education (BSc/BEng, MSc/MEng, and PhD) in engineering programmes.

Both Ghanaian and International students are eligible to apply.

ii. International Applicants are to process their application from the University website at https://iail.kstu.edu.gh/internationalstudentsapplication-form Note: Candidates who wrote WASSCE Examinations in Sept/Oct, 2022 can apply and upload their results as soon as they are released.

Kumasi Technical University was established in 1954 as Kumasi Technical Institute (K. T. I. ) to offer craft courses. In 1963, the Institute was converted to a non-tertiary Polytechnic status under the Ghana Education Service to start offering, in addition, technician diploma and sub- professional courses.
